Default Found a Norris A12 Plane!

Found a lovely example of a Norris A12 Smoothing plane in a very dusty and unexplored corner of my shed, today! Need to get her properly sharpened, but in great condition! Rosewood inset handle has no cracks (yay!) Can anyone recommend someone good to sharpen her located around Melbourne?

I might just take another look in the dusty corners of my shed, just in case.

To be fair, it used to belong to someone else (I purchased the contents of the shed save him moving it all out after we bought the house) and there are still some dusty shelves I’ve not ventured into. Gotta love a dusty shelf.

Would you like a hand. I work extremely cheap. An old norris would do me for a couple of hours of hard work

Sharp Edge in Sydney Rd Campbellfield are good for older saws and any other woodworking edges. I've used them for a few things. I should learn to sharpen stuff myself but I'm not doing enough that I'd ever practice enough on one item.

You actually found that ! Great find.

I wouldn't be taking it to just any sharpening business . If that's what gets recommended here.

Well on second thoughts if you were to give it to some recommended business I strictly wouldn't let them touch or have anything more than just the blade. And even then Id be worried .

Much better would be a passionate collector and user of such planes . And someone who would show you at the same time whats done and what is not .

There are plenty of horror stories with saw sharpening businesses that are good at saws in general but completely F### up a good antique hand saw .

Id offer to show you, but am no longer in Melbourne . If you happen to be down Wilsons Prom way and want to bring it, Id be happy to show you .

You could try in the hand tool section on this forum . Ask in there and get all the pointers to do it yourself or look for someone close to help.

Or you could approach the HTPAA http://www.htpaa.org.au/
and look for a user and collector.

I’d not want to see some ham fisted bloke taking decades off the blade with a grinder if that were mine.

Change of heart, I think I’ll put this one on the market as it should be in the custody of someone that can fully appreciate it. If you know anyone after something like this, drop them a note.
