Default Mains wiring and direction reverse in for Crompton-Parkinson Aust. single phase motor

    Hi all,

This is my first post on this forum. I am restoring a 70? year old 6" Tanner flat bed jointer. The motor is a crompton-Parkinson made in Australia (see pic). I took it apart and cleaned it gently (removed the 20 mud wasp nests inside - see pic). It spins nicely, bearings are firm, windings look in good condition. The mains power cord was missing when I bought it but the seller quickly connected a cord and I saw it run.

When I opened the wiring connector cover plate the wiring instructions were still there but the crucial wiring infomation is obscured by something black and opaque. I've tried all kinds of ways of reading is but none have worked. (see picture).

There are only 3 terminals (A, AZ and Z) and an earth (see picture). Can anyone tell me which terminals to connect the live and neutral mains wires to, and how to reverse the motor's direction.

I can't wait to get this great quality old planner running!

Welcome, not sure that anyone on this forum will advise you on how to rewire a 70 year old motor. Maybe a motor rewinder in your local area.
    cheers

And even if they did, I wouldn't trust that info anyway.

We can't see the pics. Is this the original motor? If so, why would it be running in reverse?

Reversing the thicknesser and DC motors, and adding a glue spray produces a thicker piece of wood than you started out with.
This is a true "Thicknesser", the opposite should really be called a "Thinnesser"
