    Default Mystery Bandsaw

I spoke to someone over the weekend, who told me that the local recycling centre (which I didn't even know existed until he told me) had a large bandsaw in their yard. Always on the lookout for old English machines I drove direct to the place after work on Monday. Unfortunately I didn't get there until 3.55pm, just as they were closing up for a 4pm knock-off.

The bandsaw was sitting in a pile of other "reusables" all marked "Not for Sale". I don't know if that means they're already sold, or not yet prepared for sale. But anyway...

By going next door (and expecting to be challenged - but I wasn't) I got a few photos of the front.

Wadkin Bursgreen BZB 61466 (probably a 1961 machine). I believe these are 24" machines, with a 3hp motor.

    Cheers, Vann.

Yeah, I see there's a very nice one over there right now for £1800. Mind you, it hasn't sold at that price yet... .

    Default Another NZ Wadkin bandsaw.

There is another over your way Vann.
Looks to be in a patternshop.
Pre DR 30” bandsaw only a front view but may have been lineshaft/flat belt driven.
I wonder what other gems they have.

Those old Wadkin saws are good machines. You may find the recycler has purchased it to break stuff down for recycling. Our local bloke has one for putting car tyres through

    A mate’s father bought a 30” DR from a brake reconditioning shop.
Had a lot of white powder on it.

I don't recall ever seeing a BZB before, nor any other Wadkin-Bursgreen bandsaw for that matter - over here before. Now another has shown up 140km away.

It appears to be MZF 61846 (possibly another 1961 machine). The MZF is the 16" little brother to the BZB.

    Cheers, Vann.
