Thread: Vintage Scroll Saw

A fair portion of it looks home made? The legs look good!

I have my doubts that it was ever a genuine scroll saw, rather something that someone has made from a collection of parts ie DIY machine.

Thanks Stew.... That's what I was thinking. But I was thinking the reciprocating part wouldn't be home made unless you had access to casting and machining facilities....it certainly doesn't have class.

did you see that Hyco tilting table saw on Gum tree...thought of you straight away when I saw it.

Thanks Ray..... I agree it is very home made. But wonder what the reciprocating parts could have come from.... These parts don't look modified.... Interesting legs as well.. The feet are cast....I haven't seen any other machines that have legs like this.... It certainly a mystery

I saw it! I'm currently playing Tetris in the shed to see if I have room, raiding the money box and looking to see if I can get a day off work..... I shouldn't get it but desperately want it

Another person has already made enquires before me, and lives local to it. I don't like my chances of getting it :/

No I didn't it's too far.

My call is that it is a modified sewing machine table.

Thanks Lyle....... Just wondering why you are thinking it might be a modified Sewing Machine Table...... The actual reciprocating mechanisms don't look modified but could be I guess.... once I have a chance to start dismantling it things might be a little clearer..... I think everyone agrees that it is a modified something... but what. I have had a few people suggest it might be a sewing machine but would love see some pics of what it could have been made from.
I bought it for the legs.... but didn't want to re-purpose it before finding out what it was first.... I hate destroying history if there is no need.

For me, from the side. It just looks like a sewing machine base. The reciprocating end being driven by a foot pedal/tredal driving the pulley up to the sewing machine.
That was my first impression though.

I think once I get the Reciprocating bits off it might show a different picture..... The base certainly may be sewing machine..... though I have never seen one like it.... Its been industrial I think as the cast feet have holes to screw it down... I will try to get it dismantled on the Weekend and add a few more pics.... I am sure I have seen the bottom part of the reciprocating mechanism before... If I get an ID on that part it may shed some more light as to the origin.
