    Default Rb 644.

    Another to add - again in the UK.

    RB 664a.jpg

    The On/Off pushbuttons have gone, and the original switchgear is no longer in use - replaced by a more modern starter. Note all the wiring is now external.

    RB 664b.jpg

    5-spoke cast-iron handwheels (3rd type).

    RB 644w.jpg

    Second type of fence - the classic RB fence as fitted to most RB buzzers.

    RB 664f.jpg

    Narrow "Brookhirst" switchgear door.

    RB 664br.jpg

    Cast tag.

    wRB 664 32853 UK.jpg

    RB 664 - test 32853, of 1949.

    The machine is part of batch A-2372.

    Batch A 2372 - RBs 630 to 701 - 72 machines commissioned 1st August, 1947;
    RB 664, test 32853, of 1949 - United Kingdom - Wadkin Ltd. tin tag;
    RBA 666, test 32855, of March 1949 - New Zealand - Wadkin Ltd. tin tag;
    RB 677, test 32956, of 1949 - United Kingdom - Wadkin Ltd. tin tag.

    What are the chances that test 32854 will be RB 665 .

    Cheers, Vann.

    Default Rb 780.

    Further to my relentless search for more RB buzzers - another has shown up in the UK.

    The classic second type of fence. Tin tag.

    780a.jpg

    The paint job looks rough. The cutter guard appears to be missing - as does any form of wiring (even the On/Off push buttons aren't there). Fitted with a modern single-phase motor.

    780b.jpg

    3-spoke aluminium handwheels (4th type). Full size "Brookhirst" switchgear door. An isolating switch (which didn't come standard - but RB 763 from the same batch also has one).

    780d.jpg

    RB 780, test 37954, of 1950.

    wRB 780 37954 UK.jpg

    So the machine is part of the 5th to last batch of RBs.

    Batch A 2469 - RBs 750 to 797 - 48 machines commissioned 30th November, 1948;
    RB 763, test 37585, of Sept. 1950 - South Africa - Wadkin Ltd. tin tag;
    RB 780, test 37954, of 1950 - United Kingdom - Wadkin Ltd. tin tag;
    RB 793, test 38322, of 1950 - United Kingdom - Wadkin Ltd. tin tag.

    Cheers, Vann.

    Default Rba 399.

    Two whole months!! - since the last one.

    I don't do Facebook, but a friend pointed this one out to me on FB marketplace here in NZ. RBA 399.

    RB 399a.jpg

    It has :
    - The classic second type of fence (with the high cast lug).
    - Knobbed cast handwheels (2nd type).
    - Full size "Brookhirst" switchgear door - or it would do if it wasn't missing .
    - Tin tags.

    RB 399c.jpg RB 399b.jpg

    RBA 399, test 9174 - which makes it likely 1938 (I'm seeking verification) as it appears it wasn't ordered until January, 1938 (see batch list info below). This would mean it's test number was recorded in Wadkin's second test sequence (which was abandoned not long after).

    wRBA 399 9174 NZ.jpg

    And the rest of the tags. That "Made in England by Wadkin Ltd." tag was fitted to machines in the first year or two after the name change from Wadkin & Co. to Wadkin Ltd.

    RB 399e.jpg

    It's part of batch A-1257 - the first batch recorded on the Batch List.

    Batch A 1257 - RBs 390 to 413 - 24 machines commissioned 14th January, 1938;
    RBA 399, test 9174, of 1938 - New Zealand - Wadkin Ltd. tin tag;
    RB 409, test 9969, of 1938 - United Kingdom - Wadkin Ltd. tin tag;

    wRBA 399 9174 NZ.jpg...
    I asked for verification of the year these two machines were tested and received copies of the original test number pages.

    RBA 399 test.jpg RBA 399 - tested at Wadkin's Green Lane works on 14th July, 1938.

    RB 409 test.jpg RB 409 - tested at Wadkin's Green Lane works on 7th December, 1938.

    Default Rb 308 & RB 349.

    Two more RBs, early ones, to add. RB 308 and RB 349.

    RB 308.

    RB 308a.jpg

    RB 308b.jpg RB 308 front (above) and rear (left).

    RB 349.

    RB 349a.jpg

    RB 349b.jpg RB 349 front (above) and rear (left).

    Both buzzers appear to share the same features:
    - second type of fence (with distinctive "classic" tall link);
    - second type of handwheels - cast, knobbed; and
    - base with no electrical provisions (no switchgear cabinet, no opening for "On/Off" pushbuttons), and therefore have the arched opening at rear.

    In fact the biggest difference is that one was built in Wadkin & Co. days (pre-1936), while the other was built by "Wadkin Ltd".

    RB 308, test 5098, of pre-1936? - United Kingdom - Wadkin & Co. cast tag; and
    RB 349, test 7634, of ~1937 - United Kingdom - Wadkin Ltd. tin tag.
