    Default More Wright machinery.

I sold off this router table a while ago on this forum.
They seemed to make quality gear.
Think they were a Sydney mob but that's just in my head?

A couple of hours of google searching revealed nothing about Wright Engineers. Lots of engineers called Wright but none appeared to be associated with these machines.
A number of engineering firms built up considerable skills and capacity during WW II and following the end of the war looked to other areas of production to maintain their businesses.
Shortages of imported machinery and strong industrial growth created opportunities and dozens of smaller firms found niche markets for everything from canning machinery to box-nailing machines, hand tools, domestic appliances and construction equipment. GM-H turned its experience in the mass production of aircraft engines towards the development of the Holden. By the early 1970's the golden years were over for Australian manufacturing firms and most were either taken over or quietly disappeared.

    Hi there,

I'm new to this forum, and have this beautiful old Servian drill press which I recently bought from the original owner, and which I'd like to restore:

I'd love to hear from other members who have a Servian DP, or who know something about them.

    Regards,
    Dave

Thought I better add this one to the list.
PE McManus Sydney... I can't find any info on them. I own two scroll saws and I have found pics of two bench saws and that's it.

HYCO SYDNEY TABLE TOP SAW 0 solid bench top table saw external motor.JPGA couple of years ago went to have a look at a Table Saw advertised in Gumtree but it had already been sold but he pointed to a tabletop saw and said that is still available - It was not what I was looking for but soon as I saw the Name Plate saying it was made in Australia HYCO Sydney It was sold. will add photos later to this post. I have not been able to find out anything about this company or how old the saw is. I posted photos on the internet a couple of years ago and only reply I received "At a Guess, I would say early 50's or before"

didn't know/realise they made lathes. Looks remarkably like the woodfast lathes? wonder if Woodfast purchased the design or the company?

    They bought the company.
Their large scroll saw and wood bandsaw were identical.

Yes I believe Woodfast bought Hyco at some stage.... you will actually find machines with both names mentioned.

WOODFAST bought Hyco and have seen a lathe with the WOODFAST-HYCO nameplate on it - I believe a lot of the smaller big sellers of Hyco continued to be sold as Hyco but Green instead of Red.

Jim has a Goldie lathe at the Men’s Shed Andrew.
They had a factory at Mortlake until recent times.
Made glue rollers? plus a bit of other production stuff.

    Hi Alan,
Thanks for the plug. We just want to update everyone on Yas Engineering, manufactures of the Slabmaster, Routermaster & Torque Work Centre. We have gone through a restructure & rebranding and now operate under Selective Engineering. Please check out our website and read the overview.
