I was going to ask what he pointed out,... maybe he's just picky... but looking at the photo's you've well and truely closed the book on any options.

sorry to hear that your first foray into boat repair was so bad... I must ask though... if you don't like boats... why did you start? If it's just a reaction and you do like boats... don't give in, seek out some workshops and start a fresh...

Nah I don't hate them mate How could I? Just a bit of frustration when I said that. I put a lot of hours and love into this and it was sad to have to chainsaw the poor little thing.

I suppose I didn't do quite enough research into my project. Apparently the mistake I made was to not completely cut the whole back of the boat out, I left the curled edges that used to be around the original transom intact as a guide, with views to cutting them off and re-fibreglassing the entire back after I had finished the outside. I was trying to do it according to an old boat building book I borrowed. Suppose I made a few more mistakes than that though. It was frustrating having everyone tell me what was wrong and what was right when they really had no idea either.

Also I really had no idea how much a decent outboard was going to cost.. I'm trying to save money and hearing that I was going to have to spend AT LEAST 5 grand was a bit of a let down. I have a lot more important stuff to achieve before I can take up another expensive hobby!

This boat was never meant to be; But there will be another one one day and I'll have learnt a few lessons That's life

ALSO, if anyone knows if this was the wrong way to go about rebuilding a transom, I would greatly appreciate any advice you could give me as to how to do it better. (For my next boat though!)

hope your dad's mate knows what he's talking about,... otherwise next time get a second opinion before you get so drastic, some poeple can be a little to picky sometimes.
