Default core sound 17 or similar

g'day all, just found out about this forum, excellent, looking forward to reding and placing posts.I'm currently halfway through building a 17ft kayak which i started to build with the intention of learning how to loft and use epoxy with the idea to become competent in the skills so i could build a beach cruiser with the dual purpose of sailing and just using it as fishing dinghy. Ihave just seen my ideal boat as far as ease of build etc,it's a core sound 17 now my question is is there any Aussie designers with a boat design similer to this boat,i,ve seen a few but they look a bit difficult to build [lapstrake] or are flat bottomed. looking forward to seeing whats out there. cheers Al

    Hi AA,
Well beach cruisers definitely have become the flavour have you had a look at Ross Lillistone designs http://www.baysidewoodenboats.com.au/
    and for an Australian supplier

Denman Marine are agents for Swallow Boat Kits http://www.denmanmarine.com.au/

both post here occasionally or of course Michael Storers GIS but I'm sure you have already seen that one and what's wrong with a flat bottom anyway

It's fun thinking about what to build. You don't say if you are locked into 17' perhaps expand a little on what you are looking for as far as use, where how etc.

    Cheers
    Mike

Aparently, Graham Byrnes at B&B yachts is originally from Oz.
    Does that count?

Murray Isles has (or had) a couple of single or double chine open boats.
He's closed his website, as his commercial vessel work occupies his time,
but you can look at archived versions & still get his plans.
    From Murray's blog http://islesdesign.blogspot.com/

So, how can you look at the old, old dead site?

No sooner do I write that I've killed off my IslesDesign page than I start getting
emails from people wanting to know how to see the catalog of PDF data sheets
it hosted. Well, you can look it (and just about any other defunct web page) up
at the Internet Archive's WayBackMachine. And it is even FREE!

Just go to http://www.archive.org/index.php, enter 'Islesdesign.com' in the
WayBackMachine search engine. It will give you a choice of vintages - pick
something young and fruity, say Dec 2007, and you'll be well on your way.
If you have any problems, shoot me an email.

Hi all, thanks for your replies,i have seen boats/designs you have mentioned as far as flat bottomed boats go for me probably not suitable for fishing as they can pound a bit if not healed i also like the rig on the cs17 looks easy for a fairly inexperienced sailor. The problem is i wanted to buy a kit so i could glue it up and be ready for this summer but obviously a kit from U.S.A is costly so maybe i will have to look at a kit from Aus so can anyone point me in a kit direction here in Aus i live in Adelaide.a boat with similar design and rig would be greatly appreciated,i'll need to get a wriggle on though if i'm to be sailing our gulfs this summer. Cheers all Al

Flat Duck could almost certainly do you a kit from the plans.
Rob Ayliffe of NIS boats (former owner of Flat Duck) probably same.
Both are reputable Adelaide businesses & may be able to produce a CS17 kit
for you in reasonable time. Worth talking with them, and with B&B yachts to
see what they can come up with.
Did you have a look at the Murray Isles boats - Kintail (19ft) Swan Bay (17ft)
    & Tarana (15ft-ish) ?
    cheers

    Hi,

Barrie Armstrong's Trailaway Boat Kits are the agents or Graheme Byrnes' designs in OZ are are already selling CNC kits for the smaller Spindrift dinghys.

I enquired about the CS 15 and was told 'its coming', so I would assume they will be marketing the 17 as well.

    They are at www.trailawayboatkits.com.au
    Charter boat? What charter boat!?
