Default What Filler do you use on superstructure of Ply wood trailer sailer

I'm rebuilding a 21 Hartley ts & am ready to tidy up & repaint the deck & cabin top.My question is what type of filler do I use for this application. In the past I have used Timbermate on all of my projects but it is water soluble and I am wondering is it suitable for a boat (given it will be painted) My gut feeling is No. as if I put acrylic paint over timbermate it is still porous to some extent & may bubble .Has anyone used it or another product for a similar application

Search West System on the internet, they have a comprehensive epoxy glue / filler solution for boat builders.

Bote Cote is the product I've used in the past. Whatever system you use wear disposable gloves and maybe even a barrier cream on your hands. Allergies to epoxy resins are common and not pleasant. Also wear a dust mask when sanding. I'm probably telling you how to suck eggs but when you see someone who's had a reaction to the products, following the safety warnings sticks in your mind.

Except with a very small number of folks, epoxy reaction issues require a lot of exposure, so some minor repairs will not produce issues.

You can use most fillers on an unencapsulated boat, but if the boat is encapsualted (epoxy) then you will need to use a thickened epoxy mixture to fill things.

Log onto westsystem.com and download their free user's guide. It'll cover most of the basics, of course with their products. The techniques work with any epoxy brand and BoatCote is likely the brand you'll employ.
