Rob, she is looking great, I take it that other than the Simrad problems you are pretty happy with how she is turning out? How's the painting going? As far as getting her off the trailer and into a cradle you might find that the easiest way could be to hire a Franna. Make up or buy a few stands and depending on your shed door height the franna might be able to carry/poke it in far enough with his boom extended.

Well , for today , I have a "Grey seal".
Garry had me paint the bottom anti fouling area with a grey under water primer , she looks very different !.
Its bloody hard work though , working through and under the trailer.
Greg I don't have much clearance through the door of the shed , but I'm going to have to do something else next time !.

Well , a second coat of anti-fouling went on this morning.
Unfortunately a storm came up , there was some grit blowing about , but I got it on before it got wet.
Still haven't got the Simrad brackets , but i was advised that I would get them next week.
Too bloody late , I have to take HS home tomorrow !.
I'm not impressed !.

Well, she is home again , no problems with the tow , just sitting on 80-85 for the trip .

Well , I tooled down to Port Fairy in the Canter this morning , convinced I had everything I needed.
When Garry finished a few of those last little jobs , I hooked her up quickly , and was about to go , when I realised I didn't have the adaptor for the lights.
The trailer has a flat 7 pin connector , the Canter a round.
I couldn't get one in Port Fairy , so I had to unhook , race home and get the adaptor , and come back again.
I wasn't going to tell you that , but you knew , didn't you Richard !.

I guess you could call it the "doghouse" , its mine !.
We still have the autoelectrician to do his thing , and the people from Lombardini have to be there for the startup , they come from Mt Gambier.
I am hoping to have her sailing again this year , thats a realistic goal.
Here she is , parked out the front.

In the past I've had a number of conversations , over the phone and by e-mail with Iain , some of them being about the design of a "Grey Seal" emblem for our sails.
I've just e-mailed Iain with photos of HS as she is now , and also asked if he has settled on a design for the "Grey Seal" emblem , hopefully he has something in mind now.
Failing that , does anyone have any suggestion of what form the emblem should take ?.
It would of course be available to all owners of GS boats.

Please pardon me if I don't use the right "language" , but I'd like opinions from those qualified to give it on the headsails on HS.
My perception (please tell me if I am right or wrong) is that a self furling headsail often , or usually has a higher centre of effort than a conventional headsail.
Take a look at No 24 in this thread , and you will see what I mean.
I want to retain self furling sails , but is it possible to change the cut , to get a lower centre of effort , more like a conventional headsail ?.
Is this something I should be pursuing ?.

I'm not qualified but that has never stopped me giving my opinion.

Not quite sure what you are trying to achieve here to my eye your set of sails look fantastic and a popular rig for cruising as you have many options.

The jib would be the first to furl, for as the breeze increases especially to windward it's effectiveness is doubtful. Then first reef in the main after that main second reefed. Then it's time to go home.

As for lowering the CE I guess you are concerned with the cut of the jib, I hope someone can give some technical reason for the shape but my view is it designed to exhaust the lee side of the genoa or staysail if it was cut fuller lower the resultant small slot would cause stalling.

Please don't change her.
