Sad but..I have to find a new home for nearly finished catspaw
I started building this boat 10 years ago. What I have is a finished hull with eight coats of varnish over Huon. The entire inside needs finish sanding before coating and a couple of ribs have cracks that could be repaired in situ. The centre board box is compleat (Huon and Myrtle beach) although it is currently "stuck" in place as I did not remove it before varnishing the outside (no centreboard) the rudder is carved. Both main thwarts are made (plus mast brace, all Huon) - just need finish sanding, thwart rails are made our of Kari as are the side rails, and need decorating with a few lines carved in them before finish sanding and coating.
This was a first time effort and, while it looks beutiful from a distance, it is, well, a first time effort.
I have not lost interest - I have had Reumatoid arthritis four the past four years and it plus work have slowed me down to a dead stop. We are moving from here within the next month or so, so, it needs a home and really only a couple of dedicated weeks to finish. I will attemt to post some pics but, in the meantime, if you are intersted, call me at work on 03 9210 7804
I wish I had the time and energy but, I have had the wind knocked out of my sails and will never have the energy to finish it
cheers
Warren

It is a Catspaw sailing dinghy designed originally by Herraschoff but re-designed by Joel White. About 12' 6" Carvel Hull in Huon Pine, Indonesian hardwood (sorry) keel and a mixture of NZ Kaurie and oak ribs. Transom is NZ Kaurie. I will try to get some pics up on the weekend. Basically, It is worth whatever someone wants to pay for it........

Hi Warren,
Sad to see the boat go (and unfinished). You may vaguely remember but I got some huon scraps off you a few years back for use in model ship building. I managed to use some and also passed on a bit to a fellow model-builder who has used it. I still have the 21' Zimmer Palm Beach runabout plans which I get out occasionally and ponder building...
I have moved on to building kayaks (hopefully as transition to building something bigger).
I do remember that your dinghy is a pretty good effort for a first time build. Even unfinished it looked beautiful. Sorry to hear the arthritis has worsened.
I won't stand in Peter's way but will PM you my contact details just in case...
Regards,
Darren

Warren, before selling her, how about getting someone to finish her for you. Sure, it'll cost a bit depending on how much work is needed and who you get to do it (a group of mates might set up a workshop and do it for beer and chips), but that would allow you to use her ... or is the arthritis too much for boating too.

The boat has found a home and, in some ways, it is as you suggested Daddles. The chap who is taking it will be finnishing it off with his brother and (I think), grand nephews so, their will be a group working on it together. I felt a bit tearfull when he called just now but, it is going to a great home who will finish it and love it and may even give it the name I had planned for it - "The Annie D". He has also asked me along to the launch which is wonderful. I am not a sailer, for me it was about the building and so, to know that it is going to be finnished is mre mportant than anything and I am truely greatful to him and his family for taking it on.
I decided last night, I have't finished with boat building. I have to continue working for at least 8 years and that is what is killing me with fatigue at the moment. once I am able to go part time or stop all together - I have a cupboard full off plans and so, I may be able to start again.
We shall see.
Thank you "H" for taking her on - I am so happy to know that it is going to a family who will be able to put her to full use
cheers all

I'm glad she's gone to a good home Warren, though I also understand your feelings.
So, you're still interesting in building a boat eh? What can we talk you into? Maybe a replica of the Endeavour?

I have to wait till the kids finish school and I can stop working but, I have a set of plans for a 14' boat called Skylark by Paul Gartside and my favorite plans of all are a set I bought from the wooden boat store in the States for a 20" heavy keeled cutter called Salee rover by Samual Crocker.....
Time, Energy and masses of heavy duty pain killers (oh and then of course, money...) and I could be a boat builder....
cheers
