Default GOOD NEWS for Reno Forums 2024

WWF is running low on space so I will be upping the SSD space and doing some other stuff between now and January... all being well.

THE GOOD NEWS BIT FOR RENO IS:

All things being equal I will be able to give Renovate Forums its own dedicated, independent site off Woodwork Forums.

May be in the same form as WWF and MWF vBulletin 4.2.5 but not sure yet. Will have to do some heavy research first, looking at vBulletin 6+

We tried vBulletin 5 a few years ago on Photo forums and it was definitely not a screaming success, as many of the good things available in this version weren't available in vB5.

Anyway it should happen some time before or around New Year.

When it does happen the below will also happen.

    • There will be no posting to any of the Reno forums during the period of migration from here to new site.
    • Last time we migrated the forums it took around 30 hours so... Reno may be closed to posting for that time, or at least part of it. There will be notification of the temporary closure.
    • We will have to migrate the entire Woodwork Forums site including all graphics/images.
    • Once migration is done everything that isn't Reno will have to be deleted from the new site. This may slow the running of the new site whilst it happens.
    • All the old photos that were lost when Renovate Forums was closed down by Oneflare will stay lost, as will all the posts that couldn't be rescued in that closure. However everything that's here now will stay and be the base for the new forums to be built on.
    • The new Renovate Forums WILL NOT BE CLOSED DOWN by me or anyone connected to me, it will continue on until the WWW is no longer, some idiot blows it up or something new comes along to replace it and I am no more.

Address for the new site when live will be https://www.renovateforums.au this is not a live link.

    Cheers - Neil

    WWF
= Woodwork Forums whilst MWF = Metalwork Forums vBulletin 4.2.5 = Version of vBulletin that both forums run on. Older version of forums and probably still amongst the most popular.
    vB 4 Started 2009
    vB 5 started 2012
    vB 6 Launched 22 August 2023

We started with a different forum BB??? can't remember. May 1999
    Switched to vBulletin v3 Feb 12th 2003
Upgraded to vBulletin v4 September 2009
Purchased vBulletin v5 Jan 2016 for Photo Forums lacklustre version, forums barely existed 3 years then closed.

Thanks for that EagerBeaver but we should be right for all that. New forum will probably be minimalistic similar to the one that closed.

I never log out. Consequently, I never have to log in. Perfect.

There's every chance I made a note of my password and it's probably in a safe place. We've all got those safe places. The ones we can never find when looking. I presume the existing user codes and passwords will follow to the new site. I best start remembering what I've done with it or change it before the shutdown.

thanks Neil, sounds like a win for the Renos...
1st you invite them in out of the cold, then they take over your space, then you have to give them their own place

Great news, that forum closing did prompt me to come back to this forum. Keep up the good work.
