    Stefan,

You are ugly man but you did beautiful job . Very well done. Be proud.

As far as coating your deck it is hard to maintain it by keeping the natural look of the timber. Many of us think like this. We want the natural look but unfortunately the sun will kill any clear coating. If you have read these pages you will see that Spa n Deck is the prefered product of choice. It is expensive but lasts a long time and gives a beautiful satin finish. If you do decide to use it follow the instructions (obviously) but when applying it apply it thinly. Better to apply more thin coats than few heavy coats. I used it for the first time on my in-laws deck and I would keeping using it. My father-in-law is a painter and he has not seen a better product for coating outdoor timber.
And by the way, I would use the Merbau color. I found Jarrah color was too orange.

Good luck and once again....top job .

    Cheers,
    Akilas.
All decks should be stained....black white black white black white.......after all it would match anything!
All roofs should be covered or tiled.....black colorbond, silver mist, black colorbond, silver mist, black colorbond.........after all, we wouldn't want a mismatch!

    Stefan

I am sort of on the home leg of my decking project and while I really like the look of merbau when it is wet, I too figured that it appears that no product will maintain that natural look for any period of time. From all the research that I have done on this forum, Spa N Deck seems to come up as the longest lasting product. This thread has UteMad's colour comparision "chart" of SND on merbau. Forget the colour chips that are on the product brochures, they do not show the product's true colours. Jim J's web pages also have a good gallery showing what the product will look like on different decks.
The first step towards knowledge is to know that we are ignorant.

Over the easter break i was checking out all the merbau decks around phillip island while i was walking the dog and found one particular guy with the best natural deep color merbau i have seen. I spoke to him and found that he used Organ Oil from byron bay, i have no idea what the quality is like but it certainly looks the best. Anyway i used Spa n Deck on my merbau and was very impressed.
