Thread: Canoe stern cray boat

Sorry guys couldn't read all this stuff about motor sailers with out throwing in my 50cents worth. As we all know every boat is a comprimise and I think a motor sailer has its beniefts. To sail Wavedancer only I need about 20-25knts of wind in the right direction to get 3-4knts boat speed for steerage, if i want to tack I need more wind than that. Except for the occasional off shore trip most of our boating is around Broken Bay and as soon as any wind appears out goes the head sail (its on a furler) and I get about 1-2 knts extra boat speed and can usualy get 4-5knts with the Perkins 4108 on a fast idle. I can usualy get the main up with out drama (at the mast) although I have no auto pilot (10 tons of boat has some advantages). Another plus for WD is with its full coach house is we will usual head out in some foul weather when our yachty mates are heading home. I had a good sail the other weekend from our mooring to the club mooring half way up the Hawkberry. 4 hours to sail 5 miles, but whats the rush, and didn't spill one Boags.
Another advatage of having the sails up is that some of the big stink boat sometimes give us a bit more room .

Thats exactly what I'm talking about Ian.
A bit of sail , a bit of engine , and you are set , cheaply.
And its amazing how good you look , how good your tacks are , how high you can point your sail boat , with just that fast idle .
I know the true sailers would blanch , but that doesn't worry me.
And the stink boat men would just blast past .
Them's the breaks.
It doesn't worry me.

But the boat would be wasted on me , it needs a family to cruise in it.

Paul , yes , there are a lot of boats out there , going cheaply.
And they will probably only get cheaper.
But I have my criteria , and I going to meet it I'm sure , at the right price.

Yes Tony , I have checked the advertisement out .
The boat itself has proven itself , circumnavigating Australia.
But , I want to troll and fish from it , and that is hardly possible .
Its also a bit of a dogs breakfast , with different windows etc.
I'd like a rear wheelhouse , with the transom nice and clean , easy to troll from.
