Carlson Hull Designer Software
I've been trying to make sense of Hulls 1.91 but have totally failed. I can't find a manual so I'm using the "Alternative Tutorial" which mentions an offset table but I can't bring it up; I get an explanation of the X, Y, and Z coordinates instead. I would also like to print cross sections but can't find a way to print. Does Hull zoom in and out? Pan?
These are only a few of my many questions! Can someone help me out here?

Hulls is ok but very limited. If you have not used these programs before you would be better off starting with something like delftship, which is free. There is a comprehensive manual with it and various tutorials about the place. Once you learn the basics there you can go back to hulls if you prefer.
Specifically the offset table is a text file. I can't remember the formats hulls accepts but basically you type in an x y and z coordinate for each control point on your hull, save the file, start hulls and import your text file.
Personally I miss hullform. More powerful than hulls, IMO easier to drive than delftship. Unfortunately 9p which is the only one commonly available now is a bit broken and won't install on many computers.I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.

Thanks, Damian. I'm not new to CAD software, but this one has me stumped. I'm teaching a new kayak design and building class at a middle school and need something the kids can get a grip on quickly that includes the hydrostatic testing. I've tinkered with DelftShip, Kayak Foundary, and Bearboat, but most of the forum discussions seem to favor Hulls for its relatively flat learning curve.
The Atkins Alternative Tutorial talks of bringing up an offsets table from the Data menu instead of importing one from text, but on mine the offset table doesn't pop up. I'll look into your import strategy, there may be an educational advantage to the process since students would have the extra experience of drawing the sections (bulkheads) by hand then determining the coordinates.

I was a mechanical design draftsman and while I haven't used autocad in 25 years I've used a few of the modeling packages and some other drafting packages. I find all the boat modeling packages baffling. I suspect you would have a shorter learning curve if you had no cad experience. They work very differently to "proper" packages and you have to alter your mindset.
Anyway good luck.I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.

I started drawing with AutoCad 10, it made sense to me.
