No good Mark, I weigh 92kgs on a good day.
She'd sit too low in the water and be real twitchy, also no secondary stability, you know how it is with these flat bottom designs, plus where'll the grandkids sit with their little paddles. It'd be worse than a polo kayak I tried once, I was just too heavy to be comfortable in it. And eternity is a long time to be uncomfortable. Better go back to the lightweight wooden "tinnie"idea.

Also I sent you an email today before I noticed you'd sent me one yesterday.
    Cheers
    Jim

Here's you coffin ABP plate numbers. Its for free !!

    Max HP = 2 HP
    max outboard weight = 14kg
Max number of people ( would you believe) = 1 (ha ha)
    Max capacity = 59kg
    Fl;oation used : basic ( you'll need 3 ft^3 of foam)
    standard used : ABYC

This an actual calculation would you believe. !!!
Better let me know if your using brass handles, flowers etc as the numbers might change ha ha ha

    Crikey Mark, you're dead right.
Which is handy seeing as how this thread seems to have taken on a life of its own.
    Cheers

Default Whisp side planks already constructed

I've just bought a caravan and therefore cannot take my 60hp outboard powered runabout away any distance. So I need a boat light enough to be car topped. I have a really old 6hp evinrude that is probably about 4 hp by the new standards (measured at the prop). I have reasonable confidence in my ability to construct a wooden boat but not my ability to finish things. I'm not quite as adept at procrastinating as Midge but close..

any advice or thoughts would be welcome.
I have a vt commorore wagon to carry the boat on so it needs to be rather narrow, compared to what I'd need if I had something like a landcruiser with an enormous roofrack.
    Hi Caliban,
I've plans for the Whisp and made up the sides, and changed my mind.
The really simple construction with a couple of overlapped planks and a bit of stick is amazingly strong.
Anyway, you can have them. It'd be nice to have them go to a good home.

I'm in Brissie but regularly visit Iluka way ...
Mail me and I'll send pics if you are interested.

    5. Something else, perhaps something like the shkiff by Uncle John's boats but redesigned by an Aussie.
    6. A custom designed car topper by any of you (and a new badge for my old evinrude to downgrade its power)
    7. A swift kick up the posterior

    .
Scrub my rowboat ... not really suitable for an outboard. Add my punt (11ft) or look at Bolger's crazy Skimmer (my punt is an 11ft version with lots of built in Buoyancy) or Bee. The Bee does row OK but both are 8ft boats that go with low power ... both can just carry two and some fitsh. I mean fish and be an easier lift onto a car roof. Build out of better quality materials than Bolger suggests though!

Any of us can help with item 7.

I'm sorry for having difficult requirements, that's why I included item 7, especially as a precursor to item 8.
Seems I am not alone in thinking item 7 was called for as punishment for opening this can (sorry, wooden container encased in glass) of worms.
Thanks to all who offered suggestions and humour to the thread.
I, for one have learned lots and enjoyed the process, and that's why we are members of this forum.
