Default Standup paddle board, are paper plans worth it?

    Greetings all,

I have decided to make the 12.6 Kaholo standup paddle board from CLC. I am building it for my kids and will probably end up making another one in 12 months time.
I have a set of instructions and very basic plans from the wooden boat magazine (#229 and #230). I am happy working off measurements and offsets but once I started contemplating making more than one board a full set of paper plans seemed to make sense.

However I have never built off proper full size plans before and am wonder if the $190 ($130=plans + $60=post) is really worth it.
I think for $190 it would need to save me quite a bit of time in layout and lofting.

Should I stop being so stingy?

    Thanks

All I can say is if it was me then I would use the measurements/offsets to make templates for the bulkheads/stiffeners out of 3mm MDF. Once happy with these then you can make several exact copies easily with a router. Larger pieces may need to be layed out individually each time but if you have enough room even those could be done using the MDF template method.

Personally I enjoy doing as much as possible including measuring out on the ply.

The fact that I am also stingy is sheer coincidence.

Don't forget to post some photos as you go.
    Cheers, Bob the labrat
