wooden cray boat plans
I am planning to build a large scale model of a wooden cray boat like those seen in the coastal waters of Victoria. They typically have the cabin to the aft.
I am looking for plans or any assistance that may direct me.

You could try the wooden boat association. Or one of the maritime museums. You just need to find one person who knows. Don't overlook the National Maritime Museum in Sydney.
One problem might be ... if you mean an older type there may not be any plan available. Might all be in the boatbuilder's head.
But the two organisations above specialise in getting it out!!!
Best wishes

Some really nice Lobster boats down in Tassie, I missed out on one some years ago a really nice old 40 footer that was stripped of her fishing gear, and it was cheap too, huon pine hull, gardner dieso, would have made a bueatiful cruiser, I love Cray boats in fact any boat with a stern wheel house. Build A Boat list a few cray cutters in there current catalog, maybe you could get a set of inspection plans from them.
God invented boats so man could escape life and go fishing with his mates, boats, beers, babes not necessarily in that order.

I think there is at least one set of drawings in Garry Kerr's book "Craft & Craftsmen of Australian Fishing". It's the essential reference text for the subject, anyway.
Garry is a Bass Strait cray fisherman himself, so he knows that particular boat type very well indeed!

Cray boat
Thanks. I have tracked this book down and believe that Gary is living in Portland. The book has a couple of plans which are good and I think Gary could be an interesting guy to meet.

Cray boat
I have found some really great stuff about these boats. I have plans fro a couple of Jack Pompie's boats and I would be fitting to model one of them in memory of his recent death. The Maritime Museaum put me onto Garry Kerr who has written a great book predominantly on these boats. I also spent some time at Apollo Bay and was introduced to some great boats. I have some old blackwood - its time to start. Thanks everyone for your help. I'll post some photos of the model - but don't hold your breath.

tassie cray boats
my pop was a cray fisherman. les o'neal he lived in bicheno and a few of his close mates all built boats from about15 foot to i think the biggest was about 45 to 50 foot
pops was only 28 foot called the mary rosine, i think one of the wilson brothers help or did build it, im not to sure im only 17 and pop passed away a few years ago, i work on a few cray boats down here and i think you should get out and ask the fishermen to write a letter to MAST (marine and safety tasmana) the have records back to 1970 roughly
