    Hi Linda

Call Boatcraft Pacific in Queensland and get them to send it to you. I live in country Victoria and had it delivered faster and cheaper than in Victoria
There probably is suppliers in Sydney, but thats my plug for a smooth transaction and good quality plywood.

    Default Caporn Yachts

Caporn Yachts in Brookvale used to specialise in selling marine timbers, including plywoods.

What is the name of that Dutch company that makes gaboon/ukume ply? It starts with a B...??? Brunzeal? Brunyzeal? Something like that. Oughtred mentions their plywood in one of his books as the stuff he uses (or used? or recommended?).

Anyway .. they have a store in Brookvale which is stocked with a collection of various thickness of marine grade plywood. I was in there a few months ago and saw their range.

Ahhh .. yellowpages.com.au tells me its Bruynzeel (10 Roger St, Brookvale). There you go. There seems to be a Mister Ply and Wood in the area too.

If you search for plywoods and veneers on yellowpages.com.au, you'll see there are a heap of stores in the Brookvale area. I would suggest calling ahead for availability of the type and thickness board you might like. For example, Bunning might sell plywood, but it is unlikely to be true marine grade and Aust Std sort of stuff.

If you are having it delivered it is always sensible to check with the company to see that if there are any problems with the ply - if it will be OK to return it for replacement.

Because everyone wants to pay bottom dollar, the quality of plywood has gone down and down as the suppliers of good consistent ply have been edged out of the market.

Bunnings might have good spot prices for some plys and other items but in general they work by having an aura of cheapness so people don't comparison shop. At one stage their prices for fittings to do wiring balustrades round verandas were three times the price of at a specialised ship chandlery (and they were happy to supply the 304 grade stainless which does rust much more easily) - just as one example - also there is the difficulty of finding someone who actually knows what they are talking about with something as obscure as marine ply.

All of the suppliers mentioned above try to do a good job in terms of providing the best ply they can within the quality of what is available. Bruynzeel used to import the beautiful Dutch plywood many moons ago, but last I checked they are not doing much of this any more and are selling whatever is imported at the best price because they know they won't be able to sell the good stuff - but they still try to do a good job within that parameter.

But just asking the question means that the supplier will probably put in an extra special check of the ply they are sending you.

    Best wishes
    Michael

I bought mine from Mister Plywood Hornsby - they are everywhere in Sydney.
