    Default 100mm DVW pipe support

I have to suspend a 100mm pipe under the house that will be charged with stormwater. I want to order some clips. Would 1 every 900mm be enough? The weight of 1m of pipe is near enough 8kg.

That should be sufficient, maybe one or if it’s a really long run two clips have as expansion clips.

    cheers

I'm not a plumber, but AS3500 says 1.2m max, assuming PVC. It says graded pipes, which implies not fully charged, so take it with a grain of salt.

900 will be fine but depending on how many you need all up they can get expensive.
We used to make our own using punched strapping.
Just had a quick look at bunnings and 100 hangers are around $11 each while a 6 metre roll of strap is $12 and a 30 metre roll is $55
Of course being storm water and charged, fall in the pipe would not be important so you may be able to clip straight to the joists etc with a saddle.
100 saddles are around $5 each.

If your are using the storm water for drinking or washing make sure you put a cleaning point at the lowest part because all the garbage that birds, dust collect on your roof will make the water very smelly and disgusting if it sits there for any period of time between rainfall events.

I don't think that is right unless you are meaning full of water. I have just done the calc and you obviously do mean full.

The chances of the pipe being absolutely full of water are probably slim, but even full, 8kg is not very much. I would go with rambunctious's suggestion of galvanised nailing strap. Wrap around the pipe with a small bolt to secure in place. Two or three clout nails will fix to the bearer or joist. I wish I had thought of that. Much cheaper than the proprietary clamps, which also use that gal strap for the upper portion fixing to the underside of your house.

Being a charged system, i did mean full of water.
re strapping, my plumber said it will not pass using just hoop iron or strapping. he said it needs to be preformed and coated. But i can use it to support the clips that I can get for @$2 each as mentioned.
900cts is so I can hang it from the bottom of the joists.

So thats the plan. 60 clips, few rolls of hoop iron a bunch of m6 bolts etc..
    thanks for the help.

Hmmm, sounds like you have made up your mind, your money your call,
You are in scone so check with council as to who looks after stormwater
Here in Qld it is controlled by building dept so plumbers are usually not needed but are often used anyway
As to your plumber stating the clips must be preformed, really ????
Secure fixing is all that is required but of course most plumbers today only know how to use what they can purchase.
Not only that but if they have quoted a job then the quickest way is best for them, and of course the quickest way is what they can purchase which they have already allowed for

Just a heads up, if you want a straight run, nail a piece of timber to the joists each end and set your hangers to a string line.
