    Howdy,

    Electric has some great advantages.

But like any emerging technology it has some problems too.

One of the main ones is the problem of power reserve - if the weather gets bad and the boat has to slog against waves and wind for some period of time the power drain can be excessive requiring much bigger batteries and motor than one would in calm conditions.

It depends rather a lot on the size of the boat and the pattern of use of course.

The good thing about petrol is that it is such a compact source of energy and it is easy to provide for a degree of overpowering and considerable extra range. It does not need to be a lot extra usually in smaller boats but petrol can do it without becoming bulky, expensive or heavy.

At the same time if you use patterns are similar to someone who is using electric already then it should be considered.

    Best wishes

    Michael

I think and old long shaft British Seagull motor would suit your boat. They are a bit noisy but are relatively cheap and very reliable.

Pity all Aus was not like Tassy "clean Hydro Power". Pagie you are right about the batteries, I haven't seen a recycable one yet. My observations and experences on electric outboards are that they are a real pain if you intend to to use them for extended periods and accses to the launch site is limited.
