    Default AWBF 2013 Berth wanted.

Well the plans to take Wavedancer to Hobart 2013 have been scrapped, a time and money thing (some of us have to work). The next best option is to crew for a boat heading south. I would like to know if any boats leaving from the eastern states require an old Navy Fitter to assist in delivery/ return. I should be able to srcap together a total of 4 weeks leave.
My hidden agenda is to clock up sea time and cheap accomadation in Hobart.
My lattest mad idea is to take WD to Hobart 2015 as part of a 15 month South Pacific cruise.
    Am I dreaming!!!!!!!

Done it? I own it! Not really of course, but I am part of the organisation that runs Tawe Nunnugah and I do ground support for it. I know loads about it. Ask me all the tricky questions.

An Auk is a very small boat to be attempting this expedition. It might have trouble keeping up with the fleet, and there would certainly be a safety concern in the wilder southern parts, say Cockle Creek to Dover. You might consider being 'an oar' in the whale boat for part of the journey (she sails quite well so don't imagine you have to row all the way!) and then use your craft in the more sheltered waters.

Welcome to the Forum Houseboaty. Thanks for your reply. Nothing set in concrete yet. Hope to have the Sail in the Auk soon, and then do some seroius sea trials. I will take your suggestions on board, as you may have guested I like a bit of a challenge.

Well I have bitten the bullet and signed up for the Dover to Hobart bit of the Tawe Nunnugah. Still not sure how I will get to Tassy yet, but I would love to throw the Auk in the Back of the ute and drive down.
Look forward to meeting some legends at the AWBF.

    Hi Ian,

I went on the last Tawe Nunnegah as ground support and thoroughly enjoyed it. Mind you, I did have a nice comfy motorhome to stay in for the 10 days.
I can't afford to do it this year but may turn up if anything needs to be delivered - the curse of having a big van!

Still a couple of spots left for someone who likes a bit of a row.

Sea trials for the Auk passed with flying colours even with home made poly tarp sail, so she will be loaded on the ute and heading south.
Unfortunatley this old dog is to old and feeble (may just have been all the xmas beers) to reboard after capsize exersise .
The looks and nice comments from the local on their big shinny, plastic floating gin palaces was a real buzz. I had trouble keeping my club mates out of the dingy so I could get "sea time". Biggest buzz of all was taking a youngster out for his first sail, the look on his and his fathers face was priceless .
    See you in Gods Country.

Default Berths available on Tawe Nunnegah 2013

If you're not the rowing sort of person, then perhaps a sail cruise on the Yukon is more to your liking?
This is from the latest Living Boat Trust newsletter and I though it might be of interest to anyone who intends visiting Hobart for the Australian Wooden Boat Festival. (admin permitting of course)

    Details here.

    Hi, Ian
I am volunteering for the 2013 AWBF in Hobart. As part of my duties I assist Russian crew of the viking replica boat "Rusich". I believe that Sergei Sinelnik, a captain of this vessel, was looking for crew members (I am not sure if any cost is involved). Our last communication was in early January when Sergei and his team were getting ready for the journey from Brisbane to Sydney. Next stop (if everything goes in accordance with the plan) is Hobart. I wonder if you could be interested to join "Rusich" crew?
Please note that I do not make any decision and only forward your reply if you are still looking for opportunities to get to Hobart in time for this year AWBF.
    with kind regards
    sho

Welcome to the forum sho. Mate would have loved to crew on the "Rusich", however I have Signed on as oar and booked the Ferry for the ute with the little Auk strapped into it. All being well should be in Dover on the 4th and hopefully the powers to be will let me do some of the trip north in Ripples. Also belated thankyou Snowy for the info. Looking forward to fun and games with you all in God's country.

Hi Snowy, no idea what boat I have been put on. Took the dingy out to test new sail and got hammered, 30knt northely and 150mm of rain. Heaps of paint missing of both boats when the Auk surfed down some pretty ugly waves and slamed in to the transom of WD, plus a cracked gunnel on the Auk. The Admiral kept asking "are you having fun yet", even after I went overboard trying to pick a mooring on Friday night and then dragged anchor half way up the Hawksberry River ( I was on the beach with the dog and she was on board by herself) on Saturday.

    Ian,

Only 30 knot winds to test the dinghy sail?
Are you sure that's tough enough?
