    Default 3-phase to 240v

    G’day Folks
Im seriously looking at purchasing a Mini Max combo machine that’s in pretty good nick. However it’s on 3-phase and I’ve only got 240 volts in my home workshop. Does anyone have any idea how much and how successful changing it to a single phase 240v would be?

Any input will be welcomed. Thank you.

Depends what type of motor is on it but you may be able to use a VFD.

Have a look at this thread there is an abundance of info.

I don't now about the MMC but the combination machines I've looked at have all used a 415V delta wired motor which cannot be converted to run-on 240V 3P.

    two potential issues
how many motors does the machine have? -- depending on their size and the way they are mounted, you might be able to swap them out for 240V single phase motors -- the cost would likely be significant

will the 240V supply to your garage support the current draw of either a VFD or a 5 or 6 kW single phase motor? plus lights and a dust collector?

If the mini-max is at an attractive price, wiring the workshop for 3 phase might be a good option.

    Thanks Hurcorh.
I was thinking of one of these but I’m not sure of how successful they are. Do you know what they’re like?

Phase converters are widely used in the US as three phase is not very common, people commonly build their own out of used motors for very cheap costs.
