Me too. I searched for this for a long time. I asked compounding chemists - no luck. They did say a wholesaler could probably supply it if I was prepared to pay for wholesale quantities.
A chemist friend said I should be able to find it in batteries, so I took different sorts apart, but if any had am chloride inside I couldn’t recognise it.
I tried importing some from Russia which arrived as little tins with Soviet-era artwork on the lids. I don’t know what it was but it wasn’t am chloride. It was worth it just to get the funky artwork.
American sites seem to indicate you can source it quite easily. Mystified.
This is not helping you, I know, but Im just wanting to put it out there that I’m eagerly awaiting a response too.Apologies for unnoticed autocomplete errors.

Do a search for Sal ammonia. It’s commonly used as a soldering iron tip cleaner.

Household ammonia plus hydrochloric acid = ammonium chloride solution. If you let me know how you need to use it, ie what strength solution you need I can give you the mixing ratio. Sometimes the chemistry degree comes in handy.
Cheers, Robbie.

Hi Robbie I intend to use it for painting the solution onto the wood and using a heat gun "burn" the wood with my Logo the suggested ratio is 1 tblspoon powder to 100 ml of water. as per this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3K4J7yn7ga0
Cheers

Can you make your mark, physically, with a branding iron?
The heads of 8" and 10" nails here are 3/4" diameter. $0.50 each.
I used a Dremel with cutoff wheels to carve a steel brand in the head.
I put a wooden handle on it and use a bottle propane torch for heat.
Gives me a nice, neat 'RV' on every carving.
I made a few others for people with physical challenges.
Those branding irons always turned out better than my own!

Hi guys,
Looks like we can't buy clear ammonia in Australia, at least not easily. Cloudy ammonia is 20g/L but has some detergent in it apparently. Bunnings has hydrochloric acid at 320g/L. Be careful with this stuff, it's quite concentrated and will burn you. Gloves and safety glasses recommended. Mixing ratio is 130mL acid to 1L of cloudy ammonia, this will give about 55g/L ammonium chloride solution, which is lower concentration than in the video by about 1/3. Might still work at that concentration though, if not you could boil off 2/3 of the water and then use it.
Alternatively, put 3L of ammonia and 400mL of acid in a plastic tub and leave it to evaporate down, the ammonium chloride will precipitate out as the solution dries out. Might take a while though, it will have to dry down to around 500mL before it starts to crystallise. Adding a bottle of metho will speed things up.
Good luck, if it doesn't work let me know and I'll make some while I'm on holiday.
Cheers, Robbie.

Thanks for that Robbie, You really gave those Chemistry muscles a work out, appreciate that. I will try the 3L plus 400 ml HC acid, I guess leave the lid off. I will put some cheesecloth over it to prevent any protein being added. Add the Metho at the same time as the Ammonia (cloudy) and HC acid. I take it. Warm Melbourne Weather coming up so have a spot in the open (covered) for it any idea on how long it will take also how much powder will I get? I think about 300gms or so. that's more than enough for me.

Interesting how a stamp can be used. I will be watching so please take some photos of how you go.
I already have a branding iron with my logo but it is a pain getting an even burn, especially on hard timbers. I recently ordered some gold and silver tape that burns on using the branding iron (I hope, it is actually for a machine) https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HOT-STAM...N0BzOUIJgsZ1-gNeil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new
