    Default Editting Posts

Hi. Has something changed in the editting department?

I used to find that I could only edit a post for ~ 24 hours after posting, but in recent months I've found I could edit posts made months ago. Now I find none of my posts are editable (is that a word).

My last post is probably 48 hours old, or older, so I won't know if my posts are edittable (there's that word again) at all, until I post this.

If the moderators are looking for opinions: I think 24 hours is too short, and three or four days should be the minimum. However for threads like "Extreme Wadkinitus" in Antique & Vintage Machinery) I've found it very handy to be able to add to a list of machinery for weeks after the original post.

    Cheers, Vann.

I noticed this as well, the time allowable for editing seems a lot shorter than usual.

Yes, much shorter than usual. I checked my OP above, about 10 minutes after posting. It was editable.

Now, less than seven hours later, the edit box has gone .

Sorry Vann - I missed this thread when it went on.

We had a problem with editing permissions. These have always been set to 24 hours but in an upgrade they dot set to indefinitely which is a real big no no as it can allow people to slander another member, business, product, etc then later if the brown stuff hits the fan it enables them to delete the offending post(s) to hide their offense.

This has happened in the deep dark past of the forums and threw the forums and many threads into chaos. Even worse then the loss of thousands of photos.

Anyway the indefinite problem was fixed a week or so ago but the tome to edit permission reset to it's default setting of 60 minutes.

I have just reset it to 1440 minutes (24 hrs). That as a rule is more than enough time to edit posts. If someone needs indefinite or extended editing for a long running thread then they should contact me or one of the other mods or admins with either the edit required or to ask for extender editing rights. This may be done on a needs basis but you would have to have a good reason for wanting this privilege.

Hope this clears things up for you.

    Cheers - Neil
