Mate it is just a product of the Nanny State that people are becoming hypersensitive to everything. One harsh word and most "Men" are off bawling to their mommies and demanding the end to offensive behaviour .

I've been watching this show on Austar about supposed hard men and young crims taken through paratroop training. Many of them end up blubbing because they've never experienced consequences, responsibility or been unable to do what they like. Bloody nancies the lot of 'em.

And to Tontos point of course we're not scary...

They have lacked leadership in their lives. It is amazing what happens during induction training, some of the toughest are the weakest. I trained a young girl once who was as tough as nails and never gave up.

The ones to watch are those that don't seek group approval, they usually know themselves and what they can do, and go about their business fairly quietly.

Yeah that's pretty close to this show, where the ones who are trying too hard are usually the ones that crack or end up ostrecised (spelling?)

    Default no problems here!

this is a very friendly helpful forum/community.
i guess a lot of these guys have ventured into other forums and asked a simple question only to have the living bejesus kicked out of them.
it is pleasantly nice to come here.
    regards

Bit of both I reckon here....
We do tend to become a bit familiar with each other in the way we speak (post) to each other &, to a new comer, we could sound a bit (lot) rough....
There have also been a few public stonings of new comers as well & I can think of at least 3 that didn't really deserve the 'welcome' that they got. (or didn't get)

I can also think of a few that got off on the wrong foot & had it rightly chewed off.
    Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

I reckon a lot of forums, this one included, can come off a bit rough as Cliff said, and no one wants to be the object of those public stonings.

But as anyone who lurks here a bit before chiming in should be able to figure out, a lot depends on that first post or two. The bloke who posts "Hi, my first time, be gentle, and can I wire up my own powerpoints and how do I do it?" deserves a hiding and that's what he gets.

If you can't read the forum for a while and understand its tenor and nature, then you're a no-hoper anyway.

Actually, one of the friendliest forums in the world.
    Cheers,

    Bob

Well, for example, some kind Ozzie pointed out to me that soaking my head in a bucket of urine would keep away the drop bears. And it worked!

    Now I call that friendly.
