Message too short usually means that no text has been entered, as for uploading of pics, maybe clear his cookies and cache and log back on.

Tell him to make sure compatibility mode is still switched on.

This post suggests that he can in fact post, which means that he needs to either clear his cookies to get rid of a corrupt cookie or he needs to change his compatibility setting on his browser

I hate clearing cookies to resolve a forum issue, as it buggers up so many other auto logins. Additionally, it doesn't necessarily fix the issue.

If you are running IE on Windows, you can delete the specific cookie for this forum, by doing the following
Log off the forum. You need to go to the folder holding temporary internet files which is located at

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files


The easiest way to get there, is to copy the above into the 'Run' box. If this isn't available, open Windows Explorer and paste it into the address window and hit the Enter key. This will put you into a folder with thousands of files. Do a search for 'Wood', and one of the files listed will be named something beginning www.woodworkforums.com. This is the cookie you need to delete.

John is still having problems.

Hi Alex again, I deleted cookies etc. and did I get trouble, even passwords would not work etc. (got that sorted out OK)

What is the compatability mode, and how do I switch it on do you know? as per Chrisb691.

Still cannot post, get the not sufficient characters message when I hit submit.

Alex, please refer John to https://www.woodworkforums.com/f43/it...e-days-169415/ where I previously pointed him to the compatibility settings (post 7).

I have checked all his settings and they are right.

Suggested in an email that the problems are at his end since the major upgrade last week.

It happens with John every time we do one.

I helped John with this earlier today and it looks like it was compatibility mode that was causing the problem, not curing it !

Not just a matter of switching mode either I don't think, I removed this site from compatibility settings

Waiting and hoping not to hear any more about this from John but as ever with computers, time will tell

Thanks Den and I will hand that information (that you sent) on to our puter Guru. John seems to be Ok now.

- the info sent earlier seems to be irrelevant - I thought it may have been that that caused IE to switch to compatibility mode as my IE10 did exactly the same thing

There's something on this site that doesn't suit IE, mine doesn't let me press enter in the text box when replying and I have to switch back again

IE10 doesn't suffer the same posting problem as jow104 experienced with IE9, but with compatibility mode off, I cannot press enter either in the text box

I only use IE and rarely have problems but then neither do I have a squillion toolbars or addins installed
