Default Problems with the Quick Reply box

During the past few days I've noticed that the Quick Reply box on threads doesn't register the spacebar, both on my wireless keyboard and the built-in laptop keyboard. The "advanced" reply page still works normally.

    Anyone else had this issue?

I'm running Chrome on Win10 Pro

I have found the Quick Reply box to be quite "flaky" using Win XP and Firefox.

It is quite unpredictable, sometimes I can type a sentence and halfway through the cursor jumps to the line above, nothing willpersuade it to go back to where it should be.

I then just click Advanced and continue to enter what I wanted to enter.

And just to make a liar out of me, I entered all of this in the Quick Reply box!

The easy way around this is to compose offline, e.g. NotePad, then copy and paste into the Quick Reply, or Advanced if you want smilies.

So I'm to copy the quote, paste it in notepad, type the reply, then copy it back to the browser...sounds like the hard way to me.
I just go straight to Advanced and reply there

You don't need to copy the quote, just "Reply With Quote"

    like I just did.

Please don't use Reply with Quote unless necessary. It makes threads very long and tedious, especially if there are photos in the post you are quoting.

People have a habit of Quoting a post even though it is immediately above the reply.

If hving problems with Quick Rply, click Reply the Advanced.

    Replying to posts, unnecessary quoting

BTW Smilies are also available in Quick Reply not only in Advanced.

Thanks Fred, a timely reminder, for those of us with limited data, all those quoted pics really play havoc with data usage and as you say, the threads become laborious to read.

I replied to one of the rare PM's I get this morning and had the space bar issue. I then backspaced and the space bar worked fine doing that. As I get very few PM's I don't know if this is an ongoing thing or not. Using Opera / WIN10. I had no issues typing this.

It's a recent problem and no idea what has brought it on.

I have had it and thought it was my new computer. But it seems to be a little more ide spread than that. I'm not having a problem with this post but have had witha couple of pm's.

Easiest fix if it happens is to hit enter enter a couple of time then go use the up arrow or mouse to go to the top of the bax and start typing and all should be fine.

Bon't know where it's come from as there haven't been any updates to the forums program in the recent weeks. Nore have there been nany changes made in the back room to make this happen. Very perplexing.

    Cheers - Neil

PS this was done in Quick Reply not advanced. Personally I liked it when the replies were all done in Advanced and there was no quick reply box.

I've had the same issue as Big Shed for a fair while now, well over a couple of months.
I get around it by finishing the typing and cutting and pasting what was to be my first line into where I wanted it originally - it at the start
thought it was something peculiar to this laptop, glad I'm not alone!

I've been getting a nag screen wanting to install a Java update for a couple of weeks - which I have ignored so far. In the absence of any other changes, I wonder if the Java update is the culprit? Maybe I'll let it install later and see if I'm hit with a similar problem?
