Are you using Internet Explorer, if so that is the problem, try Firefox or Chrome.

This is known problem with vBulletin and IE and has been discussed quite a few times in this sub-forum.

Same problem here. If it is vBulletin and IE this must be a flakey bit of software. I believe VBulletin was also blamed for loosing photos on the forum.

I almost always compose my posts offline, e.g. NotePad, and sometimes save a draft. Very handy in case of power failure or lost connection. Also very convenient for editing before uploading. When satisfied, copy and paste into WWF editor.

Good practice Joe and something I do routinely when posting longer posts. Please note when doing this one should use a text editor such as Notepad and not a word processor such as Word as they include a lot of formatting code which can really much up your post once posted on a forum.

As for vBulletin being flaky, perhaps but it only happens with some versions of Internet Explorer, especially the older ones.

slow typing

It's not entirely a IE issue. I find it happens from time to time on Firefox as well.

I haven't bothered trying to work out if its caused by a slow local link, a loaded local pc, a loaded vbulletin server, a slow link to the server, etc, etc....It is however most definitely associated with the vbulletin software interaction with the browser. IE is probably worse because it handles the editing meta code differently to FF.

I think I find it occurs most frequently when Windows is downloading an update in the background, but I'm never sure when that is happening on W10.

I didn't like Fire fox or Chrome, and stuck with IE until it started crashing my system with memory issues. I went to Oprah, and am really happy with the interface. As a bonus, it uses way less memory than IE.

Opera is a great little program I used it for years and loved it. I now use Firefox or Chrome mostly and IE only if I really have to and then get out of it as soon as I can. I have used Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 and it seems OK but still avoid it if I can.

If you are using anything that isn't IE and you get jumping or stuttering of type etc that it will most likely be a program(s) on your computer running in the background possibly doing backups or auto updates, etc. It more than likely won't be vBulletin or your browser, but most likely the background program putting strain on the computers memory More ram may help with this problem. Computers are constantly multi tasking these days and many automatically load dozens and dozens of programs when you fire them up.

Another reason for the jumpy type, etc may be malware or virus running in the background. Do a full check of your computer for viruses, malware, adware, etc using a good anti virus program and not a cheap orfree one that may only catch part of the problem.

Log out of vBulletin occasionally to clear the cache.

That's the best I can offer.

PS If you get this problem around 6:00am or in the wee small hours of the night it could be that the forums are backing up and this could slow down some things.

I was using IE at the time I decided to post, and there is a good chance I was using it when it previously began doing it as well. I honestly don't remember.

Nonetheless, it sounds like it is fairly consistent with IE and can be avoided by simply choosing another browser.

Firefox with "DarkenBackground" add-on will save your eyesight as well. (NoSquint doesn't work these days)

I would second Neil's recommendation of Opera. When all the problems were happening a few years ago after the major upgrade Opera did not notice any of it and I was wondering what all the problems were. FF these days is not what it was unfortunately. I now use Chrome but it is very prone to picking up bugs and if it starts having strange behaviour I uninstall/re-install straight away and all is fixed with no settings lost. The only reason I changed from Opera is one of the apps I like to use and have become addicted to won't run on Opera as I want it to do.
