How to - new thread
its some years since I've used this. Why does the "Post new thread " button not appear after I have clicked on a forum section?

Did you click on the forum heading from the main menu? If you are in a particular forum the “new post” is not an option.
Click on the Forum button on the top menu bar, then select the forum you want to start a new post in eg “Woodworking Forums” then select the area eg. “Festool Forum” and then you will see the “new post” button in the middle of the screen on the LH side.
