Default New zealand sub forum ?

Would there be any possibility to get a new zealand sub forum here ?

As a kiwi i often come here because, frankly, there's nothing similar in NZ that i can find (besides, this forum is so well established in many other ways). It would however be great to have a place to chat with other locals and have discussions on more nz specific topics like suppliers, timbers, and meet ups etc.

Could we get an nz sub forum at all ?

I think its a great idea for a sub forum for the Kiwi's

Awesome country, spent 3 years living there up in Coromandel 2011-2014, fishing is bloodygood, people are great and friendly

i'd still be there if my wife didn't want to come back to aus.

you could start a group for Kiwi's and encourage others to join you. It is accessed through the community drop down box.

Just to stir the pot, New Zealand not having a formal Constitution, appears to have been included as part of Australia in the Australian Constitution.

    Commonwealth Consolidated Acts

[Index] [Table] [Search] [Search this Act] [Notes] [Noteup] [Previous] [Next] [Download] [Help]
COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA CONSTITUTION ACT - CLAUSE 6

Definitions"The Commonwealth " shall mean the Commonwealth of Australia as established under this Act."The States " shall mean such of the colonies of New South Wales, New Zealand, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia, and South Australia, including the northern territory of South Australia, as for the time being are parts of the Commonwealth, and such colonies or territories as may be admitted into or established by the Commonwealth as States; and each of such parts of the Commonwealth shall be called a State ."Original States " shall mean such States as are parts of the Commonwealth at its establishment.

i've tried to capture the relationship of NZ to Aus, and the cities within in one image. I'm no artist, but this is the best i can manage.

but seriously, it would be good to have an easier to way to know the information under discussion was actually directly applicable to the situation, be in a good source of wood, a product on special offer, and new business or service etc. By the time you rule out the US forums and topics, and the AUS topics here, you get breadcrumbs and tidbits left over. I know we're not a big place, but a sub forum would be a great thing to have.

    not quite so

you are quoting Clause 6 of the "Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act" UK 1900 wherein the Australian Constitution is but Clause 9.

True, and it was a tongue in cheek comment.

But the clauses 1-8 do form, almost if you will, an integral part of the background to the Constitution.

A quick check of Quick & Garrans should clarify this though.

Don't see the point the forum is open to any country, nothing to stop other kiwis joining

perhaps, the simplest way would be to suffix (or prefix) a NZ specific post with NZL

    something like --
    NZL looking for ...
    or help with ... NZL

yeah, i'm not saying it's not an inclusive community. It's just that any topic which relates to physical location does not usually apply, and when it doesn't apply to you, it's perhaps more noticeable. Any thread that ends in 'try this website' or 'buy this product' or 'i use this sawmill' or 'can i borrow'. etc etc ad nauseam. It'd be good to have at least one little section where you know what you're reading is actually relevant without having to pick out the threads here and there.

Or my personal favourite which starts with 'Here a thing'; go look up thing; find thing is perfect; find thing costs freakin' triple to get into NZ through customs, tax and shipping; find thing is also not available locally in NZ.

Maybe i'm wrong, but i know that there's zero places online for kiwi woodworkers to gather that are actually nz focused, so they're probably all on here, lurking. It'd be good to have a place to mingle, tis all.

    Peter.

Just had a look at Peter's link (must admit I'd never been there), and there is actually a Kiwi specific group there.
The group has/had 6 members and there has been no activity there since August 2014.
There are quite a few Groups there, even a Singapore one.

I think many of us hear your pain.

find thing that would be perfect,
go looking for an Australian supplier (that is if there is an Australian supplier) -- AUS $ cost is 2-3 times US $ cost.

look at importing thing -- shipping cost is WHAT ?? (customs and GST kick in at AUD $1000)

so we either give up or pay the asking price.

    BTW
There's a few threads where people have resorted to connecting an imported 110V tool to a step down transformer / hertz converter

perhaps it's time to arrange a Kiwi GTG?
