Thread: bathroom mirror thingy!!

That window has to be in the worst possible place! I went for the vanity for storage and did without the shaving cabinet. Instead a big oval mirror flat on the wall- no frame. Makes bathroom look open and light.

(OK I admit it- none of the above recommendations were my idea- I just followed instructions)

Im gonna have to agree with carry pine in this situation I would lose the recessed shaving cabinet they came up with some strange ideas back in the 60s and 70s when building houses dont get me wrong some are clever space saving ideas but alot are just in practical i had this weird recessed cupboard/hideyhole in the wall that was under the phone and they stored the phone books in it it was weird it looks as though you are doing a complete bathroom renovation i would get a spark in to shift the gpo and have a think about a proper vanity and sheet the recessed section in!

Just rig up a stopper so that there is a small gap at the bottom left for the Dryer cord????? Sort of like one of those stand up picture frames with the bit that drops down to support it???

Youd have to make sure it would,nt slam shut tho?

As for mirror mounting, you can mount it on anything- mdf or board of some sort, personally I'd go for a 19mm marine ply-that won't allow it to flex using liquid nails or silicone, most guys i see use silicone ( they reckon the liquid nails can get hot and crack the mirror.)

To use the mirror comfortably I reckon you'd need to have it angled upward slightly or you'd be bending over to do your hair. - Unless (no offence) your a short stack. I'm assuming the bottom of the cabinet is only 1 meter off the ground, maybe 1.2 ???

Ps ; what ever you do, make sure you use real decent screws ( I know you knew that already) to hang the mirror.

Hi guys/Girls

There will be a 900mm vanity under the shave cabinet like the one in the photo which is a 500mm. The photo is of my last reno - the duplex next door.

As the shave cabinet is totally in the wall, I think it's easier to keep it. Also, when I rearranged next door I ended up having to put the GPO in the vanity because there was no where else to put it legally.

I was thinking of using kitchen cabinet hinges for the doors?
I am not sure on the wood to use, as it will be subject to moisture and I want to paint it gloss white, would the marine grade ply be up for that?

I want the mirror on the doors so you do not see how they are attached - I'd like to use bevelled morrors. I have heard that liquid nails the standard sort dries hard and can crack. They do produce a liquid nail especailly for glass / mirrors, which I have used to attach a mirror to the wall. I am just not sure it would be up to the opening/closing of doors.

Other than the above, on the wall cabinets I have seen the top and bottom edge has a chrome angle strip, anyone know where I can get the chrome strip?
