Superb work there and great problem solving. End result is stunning.
I take it that you used a half round bit to dress the inside!!

I'm amazed, what a wonderful thing to make out of wood. Very inventive and very clever.

I love it. Well done. Astronomy is my other hobby too.

Thanks for the good words everyone!
It was a great project that I enjoyed, but as a telescope, it's not that fantastic. I'm sure an off-the-shelf Newt or Cas would deliver better results, but hey... it looks great sitting in the rumpus room
(Although, compared to a like-sized Newt/Cas, this was quite a bit cheaper!!!)
The downside to the tube (that can't be seen in the photo's) is shrinkage in the wood. Unfortunately, it has shrunk by 1/8" and has produced a gap between the rings and the outside wall of the tube. I used polyurethane glue mostly, and I wasn't too happy with it in the end. For the future, I'm thinking of making a tube completely in the style of the rings and using Titebond glue. That'll be a project for another day I think... (today's project is a Les Paul style guitar, which is keeping me pretty busy)

Once again, thanks for the great feedback

I've posted some of the photos to IceInSpace with a link to this post.
Might result in some more member here (and maybe to IceInSpace as well)
As there's a limit to the number of photos I can post there, I've also put them here.
Please let me know if you'd like some sort of acknowledgment or an email link to you. If you want them removed, just let me know.
For a different approach to a wooden tube, take a look here.Geoff

Very nice.
Lot of work in the thought behind that.
