American Black Walnut spoon box
This is a box that I made for Mother's day. (The "fur family" gave it to her.)
It's American Black Walnut, with figured Makore for the base and the spoon holder. It's about 280 mm x 170 mm x 85 mm.
Finished in Scandinavian oil and Traditional ear Wax
Regards,
Rob

Thanks guys,
Noel, the box is made from left overs and the wood was a uniform baby poo brown before I prepared it. It was very pleasantly surprised when I found the change in colour on that one piece. It would have been nice to continue it onto the front panel.

Rob

Rob thats a beautiful box mate... just one question though... why didnt you make the hinges? those well... they sorta "cheapen" the whole thing you know? a nice set of hand made wooden hinges would have really set the whole thing off nicely
Anyway great one mate!Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

Hi WD,
Thanks for the constructive criticism. I agree with you 100%. The hinges look like an add on.
John Lennon once said of a song he wrote that he initially wanted 1000 Buddhist monks to chant in the background. (I think it was "I'm Only Sleeping")
Realising this was impossible, he abandoned the idea and settled for something different. In retrospect, he said that the song was a shadow of what he wanted and he realised he should have tried to get closer to his initial ideal.
This is a philosophy I try to follow in most things I do, especially in Woodwork, where you have such a broad variety of ways of achieving a goal.
I initially wanted to go with wooden pin hinges through the sides and into the top. I should have pursued that method.
Regards,
Rob
