Default Aussie Hardwood in its element

    Hi all,

I recently moved house and now live in a '30s style brick and stucco with much dark stained timber and a lot of red cedar.
I posted this table and the chairs previously, but always felt that they didn't quite look right in their previous environment, to the extent that I would not use them myself, unless under protest. This new dining room though, IMHO opinion shows them off beautifully. Blackwood and redgum in the space they require and deserve. It's a joy to sit and dine here now. And if you're real nice, I might invite you.

    Regards,

    Rob

Looks fantastic Rob. I really like the windows, and the wall colour sets it off well.

And of course the table and chairs are lovely.

    Great work.

Yep Rob, the setting looks like it has a good sense of place there, as Tex said the light and colours set it off. Unusual shaped dinning table, nice as well as practical.

    From Flowboys SWMBO

mess at dinner is good - shows you enjoyed the meal, unless of course it ended in a food fight - Not generally something that happens here. The Chef wouldn't allow it!!

    Hi Womgo,

The top is flat, except for some minor excavations from using a belt sander for finishing. (These were pre full workshop times.) It also suffered a little bit in the move, being as its 8'x8'. It also needs to have its buttons done up.
Also, I think the way it's set up in the photo and the light patterns accentuate this need for the buttons to be placed. Thanks also for the kind words.

    Regards,

    Rob

    Hi Underused.
This table was made PD (Pre Domino) so all the boards are joined using 10mm dowels. And what a job it was. I am seriously considering redoing the top with dominos now that I can. I am sure the result will be much stronger. In addition, the legs and rails were joined using the Beadlock system. Never again!!!

Ah, I see When You mentioned belt sanding the top flat, it got me wondering.

If you felt the need (I think it looks good as it is) you could always rip the top into boards, skim it in the thicknesser, run a jointer on the edges, domino it. New flat top without belt sander
    cheers. Gary.
