Default Small Baltic Pine table, with a small QLD walnut tray.

Recently, it was decided by SWMBO and agreement from me, that the car has squatters rights in the garage and that, therefore a clean up was required. I couldn't believe the amount of rubbish had accumulated over the past decade!!

As part of the clean out, I decided that i should use some of the boards that had taken up permanent residence. So this little table was to take care of some Baltic Pine floor boards that I picked up in about 2007. The boards came from a house in Brunswick (Melbourne) that was built about 1900-1910. I got a number of boards, but these were the last of them. Do the math and the boards are over 100 years old. They were and are in excellent condition. Flat, no nails, excellent features, just nice wood and easy to work.

I only dressed one side and left what became the back of the top unworked. It gave what was now the back of the boards a good rub down with oil.

The legs are American Walnut, the rest of the table, including the rails is baltic Pine.

Finish is HBO, which has bought up the colour and figure beautifully. The table is about 1 metre (+/-) and stands about 400mm. (did you know that the regulation height of a coffee table is either 350-400mm, or 20mm lower than the height of your cushions?).

It was received with much pleasure by a friend who has moved into a flat and doesn't have a lot of furniture, or nice things to brighten up the place. I made a small tray out of QLD Walnut to sit on the table. It's about 50 x 50mm I think. it's kind of a signature thing I do now with tables. Give the new owner a tray to hold things appropriate to the table.

The mango tyray is actually for another table made from Red Gum.

    Regards,

    Rob
