howdy kids once again in reply,
thanks for the positive feedback. To Bobr, the finish is 2-pac polyurethane by Mirotone applied until the grain and any other imperfections are filled, and then wet'n'dried with 1500-2000 grit and then buffed with cutting compound and a lambswool mop on a rotary sander, pretty much the exact same procedure as polishing a car paint finish. Any checks or gum veins are previously filled with a clear epoxy resin. To Ramus, the black 'carbonized' timber is actually redgum that has been buried in an old creek bed for many thousands of years and has started to turn to carbon. The dust produced when cutting or sanding is like soot from a chimney. Lastly to stocklilozzy yeah i took the pics myself, takes a bit of time postitioning lights but not bad results can be produced with a couple of bedside halogen lamps. cheers Timbo.
