    Default Blanket chest

    Good afternoon everyone.
I was asked to build and donate a WW project to our church charity auction in October. I built a blanket chest. The timbers are black walnut and quilted big leaf maple. Dovetail joinery throughout. Dimensions are 42" x 18 x 22 1/2". Sorry, I'm somewhat illiterate when it comes to metric (most of us yanks are). I look forward to spending some time here and learning from all of you.

Very nice Ken you must be a good craftsman, unusual having drawer's on a blanket box. Looks like a massive jewelry box!

    Ken,

That is a beautiful piece of furniture, which would no doubt have fetched a substantial price in a gallery. I hope it did not go for a song at your charity auction.

By the way, to concert inches to millimetres, just divide by 25.4; this conversion factor, which looks as though it is a rough approximation, is actually very accurate.

    Rocker and Alex,
    Thanks for the conversion tip.
Rocker - it brought $1,300 US at the auction. Considering it was a benefit auction at our chaurch, I was pretty happy with it.

Ken, judging by the quality of the blanket box, it looks like you will be doing some "teaching" . Lovely work.

Very nice work Ken. What finish did you use?
If I do not clearly express what I mean, it is either for the reason that having no conversational powers, I cannot express what I mean, or that having no meaning, I do not mean what I fail to express. Which, to the best of my belief, is not the case.

    Slavo,

The finish is seal coat of 1# dewaxed shellac followed by 6 coats of watco natural danish oil and sealed with watco wipe-on poly.

    Hi Ken,

A fantastic effort, looks great. By the way, 1 inch is EXACTLY 25.4mm
