    Red face Box Practice

Here's a couple of pics of a small box I made this evening.

    Dimensions are 80 x 70 x 45 mm.

Finish is a splash of Organoil, followed by EEE.

Anyone care to name the timbers? (except Redback )

Forgive the lighting change on photo 3, playing with Photoshop

Nice wee box Gazaly! I reckon silky oak, but the lid is different? Fiddle back eucalypt of some sort.

Nice looking boxes. They are always satisfying to make.

You may want to experiment with the spacing of the tails and pins on the dovetails. If you make the pins very slender sometimes it makes the joints look better but the work involved is no extra.

Try putting Traditional wax on after the EEE wax. EEE has Tripoli powder in it to polish the previous layer but is not recommended for the final finish.

My suggestions are for further improvement to already great looking boxes.

Thanks Borer, but until Rogor Gifkins makes a template to do it, I'm afraid I'm stuck with the spacings as are. That is of course unless I completey lose my mind and turn to the dark side  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO000

    Gazaly,

Thanks for the explanation. Darkside methods have crossed your mind, you have thought about them, it is only your conclusion that needs a bit of fine tuning.

Yep, that's the wax I was talking about.

Keep up the thoughts on Darksiding.

As for the timber, the sides are banksia from Scuttle and the top and bottom are redwood from Ozwinner.

    Thanks gents.

I thought about the darkside once, but then I got well again
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.
