Brigalow healing
Thought this was a burl when I cut it off but found the old branch stub hidden in the folds of bark. Thought I'd give it a shot anyway - turned out to be the most beautiful piece of wood I think I've ever finished. Was originally going to go with an ebonized traditional spindle base and finial but changed plans after pulling what is now the base out of the scrap bin for the 3rd time. Just couldn't bear to throw anything with that much color away. Seriously, the photos don't do it justice.

Beautiful, TTIT,
Very inspiring - I'm going to have to have a go at this turning business one day!
Cheers,
Jill

Excellent Always a chance of a surprise with wood, and this time a very pleasant one.
If we learn by our mistakes, I have had a wonderful education!

great piece tt, really like the finish
. must be nice to be able to turn timber into something like that. only thing I seem to do on a regular basis is turn timber into firewood.you never stop learning, till the day they shovel dirt on your face

Hi TTIT,
I know very little (i.e. nothing!) about turning, but that looks wonderful - and love the base too.
I don't know why people call their offcut bin a "scrap" box, because I know I'm often in there rummaging for that certain little piece - it's a sort of treasure trove...
