Good to see progress is still well and truly up to standard Jill. Keep it up - I don't house-sit just any old place you know!!!!
Are you gonna make this your first xmas in the house or wait until next year when you're actually living in it?

Thanks Beryl - I just dreamt it up in the tile shop - though the recess I'd planned all along. I'm glad you like it!
Thanks TTIT - we'll have Christmas up on the mezzanine floor of the house this year (see evidence)! Nice spot out on the front deck these warm nights, too - catches the breeze up there, now that we're finally having some Summer! Lol - this house mightn't pass muster for your house-sitting either!!!
Cheers,
Jill

Cute tree Jill!!! And cute little teddy santa! What kind of tree is it?
-

Thanks Beryl - it's just a fake tree, but does the job!
Okay, an update for everyone who's interested -
#1 & 2 - I kind of got carried away with the tiling of our spa! All angle grinder work! One of those jobs I have listed as a 4 hour one that ends up taking twice as long - don't know why! As you can see, I have to grout the floor, yet. Steve's going to do the edge grout using a flexible grout, and then I'll do the rest with 'normal' grout.
#3 & 4 - I tiled the stove alcove and Steve fitted the exhaust fan. I have to just build the 'roof' for it, now and it's finished.
#5 - Bathroom cupboard done (minus door!) - Steve did the frame for the door, and bricked above & I did the shelves & will do the door later on. I've grouted the tiles, too, and polished the stones - they look a lot better than the last pic I posted of them.
Steve's also done a lot more electrical, trims, etc. when home. We're having Monday OFF - going to the beach so that we CAN'T work! Then get stuck into it Boxing Day, again. Hope you're all enjoying the Christmas break!
Cheers,
Jill

Yup - has my seal of approval! Love the alcove - very 'old world'. Enjoy your one whole day off - surely you could stretch it to 2 days - you've all earnt a bigger break than that!

Thanks TTIT for the thumbs up! I'm glad it meets your standard of 'houses to be ~sat' (well, until you look up close, probably!)!
Thanks Beryl - there's no better time than in the middle of the night to dream up crazy tiling patterns, believe me...total focus, no distractions, and the frustration of not being able to go and just do it!! I'm glad you like it!
Hi Danita - LOL. Just as well YOU like it, since you've got to live in it! xo

Your bath (and everything else) is looking great, we are just a little bit envious... You and your family have certainly earned a day or two at the beach, enjoy and have a happy Christmas.

Thanks Clinton, for the feedback! Hope you all had a great day yesterday!
Thanks Wendy - all the best to you, too! And yes - the house has some life in it already! I'm glad you liked my tiling!
Thanks Workgoose - we did have a lovely time at the beach, thanks! Hope you & yours had a good day, too! Thanks for the feedback on the house, too!
Thank you Arch! Merry Christmas to you & yours, too. We are looking forward to many happy years ahead in our home!
I have some timberwork to do today (drawers for the kitchen, top of the coffee cupboard, etc.) then I'm going to tile for the rest of the week (and maybe grout for a lot of next week?!). Steve's finishing electrical, staining some last bought doors, etc., etc.
Cheers,
Jill

I just stumbled on this thread, and what can I say that hasn't already been said.
WOW.
I've read the whole thread, and followed your link to your previous house, and I could rant on about it for pages, but I'm not as motivated as you so I'll keep it brief.
I like trying new ideas myself, but you've raised it to another level with your diverse skills, artistic ability and motivation. Congratulations on a gorgeous looking home you're building there Jill. You should be on TV since you have better ideas than those makeover crews, who often come up with some incredibly bad taste decor ideas. Your home oozes with charming and individual character from every little nook and cranny.
It seems that you know what you want, and you know how to achieve it, but it also seems that you're still looking at every unfinished part, and thinking about how you can put your own stamp on it.
It looks like you've tried to saved money wherever you can by doing as much as you can by yourself, but I can see that there's been no penny pinching in achieving a rustic looking quality product. I can imagine that the rumbled mosaic tiles and the basin in your vanity wouldn't come cheap, but it looks so sexy that it makes me want to wash my hands in it. I'm building my own vanity soon, and if it's not too rude a question, how much was the basin and tiles?
I've bookmarked this thread and I'm eagerly awaiting your updates.
Bravo

Hi John, this thread is getting so looonnng, you'd nearly need a cut lunch (PC dinner?!) to get through it all in one sitting! Thanks so much - that is high praise indeed, but we won't need new hats, as we can see all the 'less than perfect' bits! I WISH I had a higher level of skills, and that I was more of a perfectionist, but I'm working on it.
The mosaic and basin were both from a tile shop, but here is the link to the wholesale company that they get them from - www.bedrocstone.com.au Look out for a pm.
Cheers & thanks,
Jill
