I WISH I had a higher level of skills, and that I was more of a perfectionist, but I'm working on it.
The mosaic and basin were both from a tile shop, but here is the link to the wholesale company that they get them from - www.bedrocstone.com.au Look out for a pm.

I got your PM. Thanks for your that.
Any higher skills and it would lose it's charm and character. It looks perfect to me from what I've seen. There's lots of 'less than perfect' bits in my doors and renovations, and I'll be putting a post together in the next couple of days so you can see some of my handiwork if you're interested.

Hi John - still looking for your pics - and we are interested! I love seeing others' work! Thanks for the feedback, again, too!

Okay all, here is the latest - some more fitting out, electrical done, plumbing done, moved in, etc. No major woodworking progress, tho' some on the go, still! Still lots of work outside to do yet, incl. external perimeter limestone!
    # 1 - drawer fronts for the large kitchen drawers. Aged brass cup pulls from MOP on way.
    # 2 - The wardrobe I built for our 5 y.o. son's room a couple of years ago - finally in place. Bed to build soon - he wants a mustering scene carved into the bed head, with 2 dogs, etc.!!! I set him up to it, tho' - now have to deliver!
    # 3 - The compartments I built on the back of the kids' vanity doors work well! 4 daughters with long hair need lots of hair things! The other side is just as packed!
    # 4 - Kitchen as it is right now - roof for stove alcove still to do, another small fridge to buy later, kitchen doors to build yet - I'm starting on those next week.
    # 5 - The big end shelves I built for the kitchen sink cabinet. 'Scuse the lead - Steve still is working on external power points!

The house functions well....when the temp has hit 36 - 40 outide it is only 26 - 28 inside - and that is with the door seals not done yet, no a/c (no plans of getting it, either).

I'll attach some more pics on another post.
    Cheers,
    Jill

    Some more pics -
    # 1 - The laundry - I hope to build the doors in the next 2 - 3 weeks - work jackets take the end section near the door - so they'll be out of sight, but handy.
    # 2 - Lounge area - plastic still on windows until we do external brickwork! Our 14 y.o. daughter got in and helped me with the tiling - mixing glue, laying, cutting - whatever needed doing that I wasn't doing at the time! She did a great job. She then did a lot of the grouting, too, with our 10 y.o. and I cleaning up. We had a lot of fun doing it - sometimes laughing so much we could hardly work! They made a great team - & were keen!
    # 3 - Our bedroom with the flintstone bed Steve and I built in Qld. It kind of matches the house, don't you think?!!
    # 4 - Tiling detail - plenty of fun cutting - I got used to using the angle grinder for the odd ones!
    # 5 - the towel racks - flitches with railway sleeper nails...a family effort these!

Currently I'm working on finishing the cupboard under the stairs - broom cupb'd/office/art/computer/art canvas storage/shoe rack! Trying to utilize the space well. I'll post pics of that once it's done. I just glued up the desk top yesterday - 40 mm Marri planks with a natural edge on the front. Also helping Danita build a coffee table out of Jarrah at the same time. Once that's done, I'll finish the sewing/ironing cupb'd in the laundry, and THEN we can move all the tools into the workshop!!

    Cheers,
    Jill

This has been an amazing long-term project for you and your family, and a great read for the rest of us.
The kitchen looks great now, I usually am not too keen on 'chunky' but the way you've worked it looks fantastic.

    So when's the housewarming?

Lol, Beryl - definitely chatty enough! You sound like me, now! I think I've answered all your questions on PM! I'm glad you like it! We're looking forward to having more time to get those guitars going!

Thanks Alex - I'm glad you've enjoyed following our progress & thanks for your feedback! We hope to cut the first row of bricks (all half bricks, lengthwise) this weekend to start the external walls! I'm glad you've passed the kitchen! Definitely CHUNKY, but hope it all looks just right for the style of home once it's done! Lol - not sure about that housewarming, yet!

Lol, Harry - yep - Fred Flinstone would have loved our home, wouldn't he! The bed's so heavy (even in 3 pieces) that we really should have built the bed in place on the slab, then built the house around it!

Hi TTIT - it's not ready for you, yet! It is really great to be house-dwellers again! SO much room, and a place for everything - well, soon as I finish another couple of cupboards!

Thanks for all your support and interest, everyone!

    Cheers,
    Jill

    Hi Jill,
The finished house looks fabulous, especially now its got some everyday living stuff in it. You and your family should be justifiably proud of what you have achieved!
And thanks for dragging us along on the journey, even though I often felt lazy in comparison! Y'know, look down at the tiny bits and pieces I've knocked together, while you're buliding a whole house with fittings and furniture...awesome job.

    Enjoy it.

    Again Congratulations!!

Thanks, Andy! It does feel great to be in! As for speed - I'm sure the work you have done is finer than mine - so takes longer!

Hi Wendy! I was a bit concerned that I might lose a bit of the 'push' to keep ploughing through the list once we were in, but I haven't! Seeing the cupboards without doors on will keep me going till they're done, and so on!

I've just done the understairs area -

    # 1 broom cupboard at the end - brooms will hang from brass hooks. I need to build the door, yet. The part that juts in on the left is made to neatly fit the vaccuum cleaner.

    # 2 I still have to put a Marri face on this drawer, and seal it. The kids can take their high heels off at the bottom of the stairs to save the timber floors upstairs.

    # 3 A full shot - the central area is to store all different sized art canvases for all the big and little artists in the house! Doors to build, yet.

    # 4 & 5 The office part - I decided to go with no doors on this area...but will put doors on the cupboards underneath. The shelves up the back above the desk will be left open, and will hold art magazines, reference material, etc. Underneath - the large area is deep enough to hold our A2 art paper pads, drawing boards even with clips still on, etc. so we can slot them away neatly at the end of the day. The computer monitor will sit on the right hand side on top of a 'yet to build' little drawer to hold CD's. The floor & cupb'd jut in on the right, to fit another 'yet to build' item - a set of shallow drawers on wheels to hold all our art materials, which can then be just slotted in there out of the way when not in use!

I should have an update on the sewing/irong cabinet in a week, hopefully - I've just glued up a major part of it today - most of the rest will be easy!

    Cheers and thanks!

    Jill

hey jill you could do guided tours through that house of youres .i wish i had the time money and inclanation to do someting similar . wooden furniture always looks better in wooden houses too so any future projects you do will find a spot in there and not look out of place like they do in plasterboard places .was there a shot of that kitchen bench from the top ?
