    Default Burl ~ anyone interested

I was out getting firewood today and found this, about 900mm diameter and 600mm deep. If anyone is interested, let me know

I have another photo taken side on but for some strange reason I can't upload it so if anyone wants to see it I can email it to you

Just whip it off and bring it to Dave's next GTG for a participant challenge.

Not a bad idea at all, hmm, what are the does and don'ts of cutting a burl and storing it apart from not letting the white ants get to it

    Yellow box burl

Cutting off a burl doesn't kill the tree unless you ring bark the tree. It looks pretty large with respect to the circumference, but it could be just the photo, my own rule is not more than 20% (but it is pure gut feel). If ok slice away, otherwise you can take a partial slice, waiting time for the tree to heal to wound. Seal the cut face of the slice off portion, using end sealer or PVA (I don't like paint or similar), trying not to let the sealer run down into any crevices (I use roller).
