Default Cedar Vanity Unit in progress

Next Vanity project bought for $70 (overpaid). All Cedar except for the top, trying to get hold of a Myrtle slab to cover that. This one i'll hopefully sell.

Pulled her to bits and through the thicknesser she went.

Mmmm. Hard to tell from the photos but looks more like a pine or even perhaps Qld Maple? Old Australian cedar, when unfinished, tends to go a very dark reddish colour, whereas this is very light.

Have you considered a slab of marble on top instead of Myrtle? That would be much more authentic for the period.

    Hope this helps.

Whilst I am no expert, it doesn't look like cedar or pine to me.

    Default Cedar Vanity Complete

Definitely Cedar, thinking White. Seen photos of white cedar which is very orange. Smells like cedar, splits like cedar and is light like cedar.

Modified the drawer to take P-trap, made a new door frame to take old inserts. Top was cedar which inturn became the base. Gave it coat of satin clear and "bling" it was orange. Out came the sander!!! So in light of this we went for a greywash stain for weathered cedar. Sanded it back till grain was distinguishable again and cleared once again. Found a Spotted Gum slab which became the top. Now it will fit in perfect with the bathroom reno.
