    Default coffee mug - Gidgee Jarrah and Huon Pine

    Something a little different.

    The main rings are Purple Gidgee, with Huon pine highlights

    The handle was turned as a complete ring from Jarrah, then cut in half, dowelled and glued to main rings to hold them in position.

    Nothing is glued to the glass, just a nice tight fit so it can't move around.

    It certainly gets people at work talking when they see it!

    I know you called yours a coffee cup, but it looks suspiciously like a beer glass ... it's obviously multipurpose!

    I have seen one a few years ago. Not made as nice as your, and was made to hold thoese cheap disposable plastic cuffee cups inserts. Do you have any type of lining inside the middle like cork ??

    Well spotted! I made it to replace my coffee cup at work but has since migrated to home and I've found it works wonderfully with most alcoholic beverages !!! There are still some to test, but so far any alcohol consumed from it seems to 'hit the spot' !!

    Junkboy - no there is no cork lining. The Purple Gidgee is so nice to look at that I wanted to be able to see the insides of the rings when looking through the glass. The inside edges were sloped to match the curve of the glass exactly, but if the timber distorts I could end up with some free floating timber rings, and lots of broken glass, I guess.

    Hence, for now, I'm not making any for other people (despite numerous requests) cause i couldn't afford the law suit.

    Perhaps the next version may have allowance for timber distortion. I guess time will tell if it was needed with this one.

    nice job. very innovative. now you have me thinking about completing that cup and saucer - with teaspoon and bikkies I want to turn - bikkies complete with bite crescents in them.
