the New Cot
Baby is getting big - arms out either side of the first cot, so have been working on the new one. SWIMBO got to choose the design. Supposed to look like a sleigh - makes Amy look small again! I love wood grain, so I held out for a little bit of natural timber in the headboards. It's recycled rimu (native NZ). My first attempt at Kerfing too. Pretty stoked.

Thanks Termite.
This is the cot I was making when I posted the measure twice, cut once post (http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ad.php?t=22694). The new mattress fits just right.
Baby has got used to being rocked to sleep, so was planning some complicated rocking mechanism - in the end decided on wheels. Hardly notice them. Baby has just gone down for her first sleep in the new cot. Had to wait all week for the enamel fumes to disperse (it's been a bit damp here lately).
Contibuted to the discussion on kerfing (http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ad.php?t=23044), but didn't come out with anything new except for trial cuts.Judge not lest you're judging yourself

Yes they are, - I just copied the style that SWMBO chose. It's quite low, and easy to reach into, although I have had it suggested that this can be a bit of a pain over time. The distance from the base to the top of the side rail, and top of the mattress to the top of the side rail comply with the WA and NZ safety standards (as do all of the gaps). The slat sections can be removed when she gets bigger, and then it can be used as a normal bed (as normal as a sleigh shaped bed gets anyway)
