    Default Dining Table

    Hello all,

Managed to finish our new dining table earlier this afternoon. Has been a WIP for almost 4 weeks now and it is great to have it finally inside ready for use.

The hardest part was moving the top around, damn thing is heavy and when it is inside my shed there is not a lot of room left...definately need a bigger shed.

The top surface is 1500mm square and 32mm thick. I made it from recycled jarrah floor bearers and book matched these as best as I could. I had a limited amount of wood so had to compromise a little.

I filled in the surface gum lines and occasional nail hole with epoxy and a black tint. Comes up great and the surface is so flat. I used all mortice and tennon joinery for the base gluing with epoxy glue also. I have jumped all over it and cannot notice any racking so it should be kid safe until they get bigger then I am, at 100+kg I have a while.

I finished with a 2 pac lacquer and must mention the help I got from other members on spraying in the finishing section. Thanks again to all those who offered some assistance it was greatly appreciated.

    Now...onto the chairs

    Cheers, Buz.

That is really lovely. Your grandchildren will fight over it someday.

    Well done.

Us mexicans are jealous that you can easily get recycled Jarrah over west.

Yeah, recycled jarrah floor bearers....if only.

But as for the table..simply fabulous. A greeny coming to you.

    Buz,
"WIP for 4 WEEKS", "got it FINALLY inside"
Strewth Buz, 4 weeks isn't WIP unless "W" is for whirlwind, "finally inside" usually refers to moving the piece inside well after the need is passed such as finishing the cot in time for the 21st birthday!
Seriously though, beautiful elegant design, beautiful workmanship and stunning timber, greenie on its way, Fletty

Great work Buzz. It looked good a few weeks ago, looks bloody fantasic now.

As others have said, its now a true family heirloom.

Do you have any idea's on the type of chairs you gonna put with it?

Really nice work. Echo comments about recycled jarrah. Don't want to swap some for a bit of messmate, do ya?
