    Default Dining table & chairs

Finished this not to long ago. an extendable dining table with 4 chairs.
table is normally 1200mm x 900mm but when extended add another 400mm each end. its made of oak, which for reason's I cant remember I stained with some old jacobean stain, was wiping it off as fast as possible so it didnt go to dark.
the chairs are also oak. had a friend do the turning for me, cos I would still be trying now. the centre post on the chairs was cut with a jigsaw.
then swmbo asked for a jarrah color on the chairs.
not an original design I saw something similar at a second hand shop and decided to try it. damn chairs, should have at least 20 of them I made so many bits over & over. the backs of the chairs were steam bent from solid timber

Very nice. I've always had a lot of admiration for people who make their own dining room suites.
After many years in the game the one thing I absolutely hate making is chairs, I went out and bought our last dining room suite.

Lovely Mick. I'm with termite on chairs, takes a lot of skills I don't have.

    VERY nice, Mick.

Did you build the kitchen, too?

    Cheers,

    Hi Mick,

Congratulations on successfully making chairs: I've started a few times, the stopped, thinking "this is just too darned hard..."

Did you use a scorp for the seats, or perhaps a compass plane?

    Cheers!

Very nice Mick. There are a few difficult components there, eg getting the backs right with steam bending. Can we have more info on how you did the seats please.

Default response to a couple of questions

thank you all for your comments, its nice to get feedback on something that you have put time & effort into.

in response to your question jill, I didnt make the kitchen, well that is the original kitchen. what I have and am still doing is refurbishing an old ugly painted eyesore. have had to strip back many layers of paint, made new doors (plain is what swmbo asked for, I wanted to do cathedral) am also replacing the drawers and bench top. put a new bench top on today and got lucky it didnt warp or cup. rightnow am in the middle of staining the pine with wattle mahogany. may post a pic when its finished.

Auld, all I did for the seat bases was use a 5" angle grinder with a sanding disk. to be honest the shaping of them was pot luck

Steam bent backs, saw a show on the diynetwork on how to steam bend solids. when I can find the link I will put it in here. basically involves a kettle, copper tube, length of pvc pipe for the material to go in and a bending form/jig which you make yourself. plus lots of time and patience tookme a lot of attempts before I got the bend I wanted. was to impatient, kept taking the pieces out of the bending form to early
