    Thumbs up

I have to confess the photos do not do the spindles justice. I saw them at our woodies lunch today when Reeves dropped in for a visit and they are impressive plus as Reeve's SWMBO has shown, they work very well and are in demand by her fellow spinners.

    Good one Reeves!!!!

    cheers

hey thanks for the repsonses guys...

no i havent made a banjo yet, repaired a few, plan to tho..

and wife (juleen) has me making them to sell..not me getting her out there, ;-)
its more like.. i need more spindles, more huon....more budgeroo!

thhose were for the spinners and weaver mob so pretty low cost...
$10 for some cheaper ones iwth just dowl shafts and camphor or siliky oal whorls...
the good wood ones were sold for $20...so we sold 15 or so....
they r pretty eays to make but there definaltley an art to getting them to spin well..
if a spinner can get up to a 1 meter of yarn froma spin, then thats good production time..

Have you seen some of the spinners with the scroll work in the inside of them and then brass or other metal on the outside just for weight. I saw some pretty one at a craft show this summer and the guy made Dulcimers Hammers too.

Not sure if you would like this or not , but I'll post a Pic of it any way. My Dad just sent this to he last week He calles it an Easy Jo. The gray thing is a 8" pratice pad for a drum. I'll be posting a link soon for his Web page so people can see his plans and other insterments he makes..

    sure..

basically the spinner grabs the spindle in one hand and some washed and brushed raw wool in the other...

after tying some connecting wool to the spindle u hook it up under the hook and spin it from the bottom,..twistiing the wool line as it spins.

U then wind on the new wool with the other hand pullining it thin a s u do and trying to get an even thread...an even spin helps...

as the spindle spins yr new wool gets longer and u stop, wind it on and spin again, its pretty easy but does require an eye for the thread and a good rythmn....

Wife uses them in the car, sitting in bed...walking a round....

when the spindle is full, amybe 10 -3- mtrs of woollem thread, it can be used for plying thicker or direct knitting...
