Error platter - good from bad
Well, I'm a learner-turner, so it doesn't always work out. I've been having fun turning some lovely Australian cedar blanks I bought from Trevor Gaskell. Until yesterday I was using the thicker ones, but I decided to turn a platter. All went pretty well yesterday.

But today, I got a got carried away with the hollowing out and ended up 1mm thick/thin at the rebate for the chuck mount. Not good (really not good, cracked through). So, I cut through the base, carefully, and ended up with a lovely circular hole. Then I looked around for a suitable plug. First, I stuffed-up a lovely Tasmanian Myrtle burl blank. Ouch! (but some coasters coming up) Then I chose a lovely piece of Dusteater's Lace Sheoak and turned it to fit. This is the end result.

Sometimes errors push you to do something that you would not choose to. Maybe, sometimes, good things come from errors.
Shellawax Glow finish.

That is a wonderful plan B.
I don't think I have ever made anything without going on to plan "B", even just a minor, minor mistake, usually results in a plan "B" of some sort.
Looks really great.

i love plan B, I think it is my 'mantra' as I always manage to recover from a disaster. besides without forums like this to show everyone one's cockups, nobody will ever know. then you hear the gasps of delight, 'gee, that's clever, how did you join those 2 pieces together, that's fab!!'
nice recovery by the way.

I have also had to make a modification to something that was not expected. It takes a little longer but it is worth it in the end. Well done on the recovery.

Yes. I like. Plan 'B' = BOLD. Very nice finish to the entire project. Do more of those.
